Think the GTI is underpowered now. 207BHP is not enough to keep up with the VXR, ST etc. Really should have been 230/240bhp as the last edition Mk5 GTI 30's had.
R20 does sound good, but needs 300BHP to be interesting. Again this car will be up against the Focus RS, Subaru STI, Evo X FQ300, and Vauxpoo's new Astra VXR (That will have AWD too).

Seriously, how much can all the car mags wax lyrical over this car? (I usually don't read car mags anymore, but bought a few to read on the plane last week).
Ok, I'm yet to test one and see for myself, but I'm cynical. As such am prepared to say it is overrated, like the MK5, it has too much power for a FWD; Even with the LSD. As such in lower gears engine output reigned in and all the drivers pedal actions are dampened by the electronics (regardless of DSC/TC setting on or off) to make the car appear not to suffer any traction issues. And unless they magically improved the 2.0TFSi, I will probably find it still has a disappointing throttle response and will be too laggy for my liking. Add the asking price for the cherry on the cake.
However, I await to be proven wrong (seeing my local VW dealer is sending me paraphernalia in vain hope they part ex one for my R32 - so I take a test drive for the hell of it ).
Of course AWD would be nice, but that treads on the S3's toes, plus I'd rather VW save that for a 3.6 VR6 Golf R-thirty-something, which they say is not going to be produced...but one can still live in hope.

The R36 has been binned in favour of the lighter engined 4pot.
Giving better handling, mpg, Co2 etc.
Plus having a Turbo makes it easy to tune.

I'm inclined to agree
Just a pity there aren't enough folk out there willing to take the tax hike and pathetic sub 25MPG and demand it. I mean if I was that concerned over mpg and tax I'd be driving a Mini Diesel or one of those Bluemotion thingymajigs.
Maybe if VAG used their supercharger technology on the 2.0 TFSI engine to boost its throttle response and added the haldex, we may, just may have a good substitute.
