Default UK VW owners who want to be german???

Recently, ive noticed various VW in my area with number plates in the german font and a "D" in the country of origin part of the plate!!
Why the hell do these UK owners with there right hand drive, UK cars put these plates on?
Germany hasnt exactly got a "cool" image so i cant understand why someone would splash out on new plates to appear german!!
Can anyone explain??!!

They use the pressed metal plates too, I gather they're not legal... I don't understand it either!

i think they are called '****' plates, it means you don't have to actually meet the driver to find out he's a ****. saves time.

It's to be in-duh!-vidual... Until "everyone" does it. Still, at least BiB can easily pull loads of cars at the local cruise.

To get around the illegality of the plates, they now make euro prefixed numberplate surrounds. Which achieves the same thing... If a copper spots it, he'll still pull the car. But at least the plate is legal.

For some reason hardcore Dubbers seem to think German plates are cool, even though illegal.

Its all to do with achieving a look. I might not like the look myself and I have asked a guy at Norice once, He said "I see imprezas with rally stickers over them all the time, they dont do rally do they"
I understand his point, Each to there own.
