Default My 355 v mates new M3

Mate has just taken delivery of his brand new M3.

He needs to wait until it's run in a bit, but then we intend to have a bit of a drag race.

I feel that I will however be getting my **** handed to me.

On paper I have 0-100 kph in 4.7, so does he.

However we will not be doing this on paper. In the real world I have no driver aids and an 11 year old car. He has a brand new car with technology overload.

Is there any way that I have a chance?

You probably have more weight over the driven wheels, so maybe better traction off the line? Might be worth lowering the tyre pressures a bit?

If he beats you, it won't be by much and at least you will look better than him in his jumped up rep-mobile.

In most cases you need 100bhp difference for any sort of 'handing on plates'

But then on an 11 year old car many things could have declined a little to add up to quite a few lost ponies... assume the worst and you might be surprised.

Who cares, you'll certainly look more beautiful and sound 10x better

355's, best looking prancing horse to date IMHO.

Try 100bhp per tonne, mate!

100bhp means the square root of nowt if your car is 500kgs heavier!

Chances are you might do some damage. And for what , having a pissing contest with a mate? his car will appeal to a different group of men, Your 355 will be a classic forever and dont think for one min he will not be jealous

if you are going to have fun , do a rolling start.

M3 will win, have owned a 355 and 360 back in the day, 355 was a lovely looking car but not vastly quick, any modern performance car will leave it standing.

my friend has a phase 1 355 with a Capristo and it looks and sounds amazing...my classic wagon destroys it well into three figures with only an 18g and bolt on mods.

the M3 is going to do the same hail-hail...

Are we talking a Ferrari F355?

If so, and please don't take this the rong way, you will not destroy it if your mate wants to try.

The standard 355 can get to 60 in under 5s and to 100 in about 11s and tops out at 183mph.

If you have a slightly modded wagon that can 'destroy' it then I want to see that car

We have both had our cars for years, pre 18g (so 280ish), his car (1995 F1 355 GTS manual box), was always quicker than mine. Post 18g (360ish), I was expecting to have the measure up to three figures but much to my surprise it kept pulling away well into three figures. This is not a one off as we have enjoyed plenty of spirited drives (at various motorsport events of course), and the result has always been the same.

I’ll see if he’ll join up and post if you don’t believe me, but I can assure you I’m not in the habit of spouting BS...there are enough posters on here fluent in that already

Instead of getting him to join up suiggest he gets his Ferrari fixed

I'm not calling you a liar as you are one of the more sensible people on here, but seriously you should not be beating him comfortably if at all. It's an old design by modern standards, but was pretty advanced in its day and is no slouch if driven to its capability.

Been fixed, when we fitted the Capristo we noticed the vacuum canister that operated the 'noise' valve in the exhaust was broken...when it was fixed he had the whole engine checked out

It is a lovely car but seriously not that quick, the phase II 355s are quite a bit quicker though. Another friend has a late flappy paddle 355 and that feels much quicker. Unfortunately as mine is still WIP I've yet to have a play with him...not really a level playing field with my latest spec though

Don’t know if I like being called sensible though

the earlier 355's were actually quicker, the only difference was the ignition system, being 5.2 motronic on later cars (ones with airbags).

I wouldn't even bother trying. Doesn't matter what the result is anyway; you have a ferrari......he doesn't.

Opposite to what we (me and the owners), have experienced...I know the paddle transmission feels fast but we thought the newer air box arrangement gave a bit more power\torque as the newer car certainly feels stronger.

The newer car has a Tubi rather than a Capristo.
