Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD Limited
Has anyone owned one of these for a length of time, they seem to me to be rather reasonable in terms of purchase costs etc...
I am intrigued on the running costs of them now.
TIA

Guy at work has the 3.0 crd v6, few years old now and looking at getting an 07 or 08 model. Think it is a 51 plate that he has, will ask him when he is in.
He swears by it, He had cylinder head problems recently where he had to have both heads replaced due to them cracking which on his year he has said is a common problem, but other than that he is happy with fuel economy (30ish mpg) he also uses it for towing his horse trailer, and is a reliable car. He doesnt use a main dealer for servicing but he does get it serviced and depending on what it is it varies in price but nothing stupid. Only other prob he has had is a cracked radiator, but that cost again just over £100+ fitting to get replaced with a new unit
Tyres are roughly just over £100 per corner

I had one (Overland) for a week whilst our X3 was getting a new rear bumper, the engine is very impressive, loads of grunt. Inside is quite yanktank but still not so bad. For a sofa on wheels it just about does the job as good as anything else and I think it looks quite good too.
That said I dont think I would buy one - just a bit too much goes wrong with them for me. A friend where I used to work had quite a few problems with hers, and then she went and got a newer one and then had problems with that one too..

Funny the heads going on diesels on the new ones. The old cherokee diesels had the same problem. Was told to avoid the diesels and get an LPG petrol.
I have an old Cherokee and was going to sell but for some reason I just really like it.

The 3.0l V6 CRD in the Grand Cherokee is the latest Merc V6 as fitted to the current Merc range.
The 2.7litre unit is also a Merc unit but an older 5 cylinder design.
The 2.5 and 2.8's in the Cherokee are 4 clyinder units from VM Motori and are fitted to a range of vehicles including the TX4 taxi.
The 2.7 is a sturdy unit but not in the same performance league as the current 3.0V6.
Off road the old Grand will keep up with any SUV, on road they are OK but no X5. If you can put up with the cheap plastic interior they are a decent buy.
Cheers

Cheers Guys,
I'm not wanting to spend 'mega' money so probably looking at the 2.7 as opposed to the older 3.1 or the newer 3.0 CRD.
I'm (without wanting to sound too old) trying to be sensible
