Default 2008 C320 CDI

Following on from my recent thread I have seen a few of these around in "sport" trim and I must say I think they look quite nice.

For me, they look better than the 3 series and they also have quite a good sat nav / ICE system.

All the reviews seem to be good and it seems there are some decent deals to be had.

Anyone got one and like to report on their ownership?

I just need to get the mrs to accept that we NEED the C63 AMG...

My dad has just got delivery of a new C280 (petrol).

It looks really good, it's a very dark metallic bluish color with the C63 AMG bodykit, wheels and suspension bits.

Not sure how it drives (haven't been in it yet) but dad recons it's pretty quick; it has about 230 hp, 300 torque, and a 7 speed semi-auto box with the usual paddles (or buttons, can't remember).

Not cheap however ... once he added the C63 AMG stuff (wheels, bodykit, suspension), the super cool sat nav / ice / tv system, and a few other must-have options (leather, sunroof, etc), I think he spent well over 40,000.

Looks really good and I look forward to trying it soon!

I think this sums up Merc dealers more than C-Class cars to be honest.

TBH I have not had the best experiance with our BMW, the final payment (optional) is 17k and the dealers are saying its worth 11k ish... thats a 20k loss in 3 years...

As it happens my local dealer rang me as I got my Smart from them and its due a service, they are sorting out a C320 as a loan car whilst they service the smart so I will get to have a good look over one next week.

Dad's not concerned with depreciation and final payments. Paid cash and it will probably be his "last" car ... he's almost 70 and likes to change cars once they have around 80,000 miles: since retiring he does about 5000 miles per year with his car (uses mums' for shopping runs etc) so I recon he'll keep this until he's 80+

Top gear have just got rid of the C220 sport after a year of ownership and the guy who drove it loved it, he couldnt fault it as an overall package. It also had no issues over the test period and was head and shoulders with regard build quality over the old version.

They also look way better than a 3 series, especially with the sport front grill.

I too am thinking of the 320CDI.

i work for M-B and smart.

i ve currently got a c320 sport, leather command, heated seats, parktronic.
wicked car, loads of go but cruises effortlessly at 80 - 90 plus.

i ve had a 280 petrol, lovely smooth engine but nowhere near as good as the 350, a 220 cdi, great engine and a c220 estate (all sports)

auto gearbox is really good, and the sport gets the paddle shift as standard, command is 2k ish but you get linguatronic (voice controls that actually work) sat nav, multi changer, hard drive to store music into the stereo and the better looking screen that pops up.

which dealer are you looking at buying from/bought the smart from?

MB Manchester Central.

Did not go very well.

Arrived at the agreed time, booked my car into service and wandered over to the new car sales guy who I had spoken too a week ago to arrange the c-class test drive.

He tips up and announces there is a problem, in that "just now" the company has now stopped lending out demonstrators due to an accident yesterday.

He did not seem one bit bothered so I showed my **** and told him that to wait till I had driven all the way here, and booked my car in for service to then tell me was not acceptable.

They paid for my taxi back, which is the least they could do, but no sign of an apology and they did not seem too bothered they just lost a sale???

I suspect it was a case of they did not like the look of me and that was the end of that.

Interestingly the taxi driver told me that I was not the first person this had happened too.....

Theres only one thing that puts me off buying another Merc and thats Mercedes themselves. I've had three and everytime there has been call to deal with the local dealership I have been left with the feeling that they couldnt give a crap, even when you goto buy parts. Will be having a E320 CDI Sport Estate when they have filtered down and away from the stealerships.
