first electric porsche announced
Ruf Automobile is a name known mostly to enthusiasts of tuned Porsches in Germany, but the company has moved into the limelight this week by revealing its new electric car based on the Porsche 911.
Named eRUF, the development car takes the current 911 Carrera as a basis. The flat-six engine is replaced by a three-phase electric motor, which receives power from a bank of lithium-ion batteries.
Ruf's targets for the new sportscar include 0-62mph in less than seven seconds and a top speed of 160mph.
Although the eRUF weighs in at 1,910kg (about 500kg more than the standard car), the electric motor has the ability to deliver maximum torque of 479lb.ft from a standstill, while peak power is in the region of 200bhp.
The eRUF is currently touted as a concept, but there's no doubt that the company has plans for future production.
