Smile My old daily drive

A merc, of course.

As per the last thread where I took the advice of SN and kept the colour coded trims on. I've given her a good old clean and polish, and today painted the sills and the front valance as it was showing early signs of rot.

Cleans up pretty well, and goes really nicely.

Scrubs up well FP. I think there is one similar goign cheap round Scunny. I'll have a gander - looked the same as yours, in white I think.

*Edit*
Sorry, it's nothing like yours, my bad 1987 MERCEDES 300 SE AUTO WHITE on eBay, also, Mercedes-Benz, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 30-Oct-08 19:27:17 GMT)

That has the same trim as my old W123. Does your hazard warning light switch work; and what about your vacuum central locking?

Hazard warning works fine. Vacuum locking works 90% of the time to lock, and about 60% to open.

This car's pretty much optionless other than the sunroof - which is the manual version, so very little to go wrong.

I don't! You have to trust in what was then superior German engineering.

I've had versions of this model with 250k, 400k and 800k on them with original engines and boxes and all ran ok.

Pot luck with any old motor whether they break. The masses of consistent history make this a good bet to keep going for a while yet. 147k really isn't anything for these.

I don't mind them. There's a set of original lenses in the boot if I fancy a change.

MOT to end Aug '09 so a few months I think.

Meant to be moving house in the new year so it would depend on the new house and parking, etc.

That's unbelievable. I know someone who had a honda civic with 270000 on the clock, and I thought that was impressive...

It's pretty decent for a petrol engine! My last 230E had just over 400000 on it and it was using no oil or water.

I think the 240 diesel version has been known to cover well over 2 million miles.

You need to get an old Mercedes, even now they arent as reliable, they have improved having dropped the ball in the late nineties but they are way more complicated than these oldies. I love these, proper Stuttgart Taxi, built to last and nobody knows why you drive it, is it a banger, is it a classic, are you an East European gangster or an old boy who bought it new ?

Is it? No idea.

I think the record was 2.8 million miles. Still pretty decent for the rest of the car if it managed it, regardless of the engines it used.

My 804k W123 was on its original powerplant for definite.

Theyll only go 50mph: but theyll do it all day.....

I could be interested in the W123 when you decide to sell; assuming that its all still good.

I'll let you know. I'm certainly going to keep it looked after and protected from the elements when not in use.

Don't go spoiling it. No pillar mounted gauges or, God-forbid: a KnockLink!

I was thinking of fitting a Cobra stainless, 4 pipe exhaust and a Halfords special spoiler........

Do they do Lexus rear clusters for old Mercs?
