I couldn't believe the price of used ones of these.
I thought a 2001 Y reg with 10k would be a good place to buy.......wrong, only 1k less than a new one????
I someone having a laugh? I expected 11-12k tops!

Yep,
Did a search on the Skoda web site last week. Around 20 for sale the cheapest was £13495 and only because it was Lemon Yellow.
Most year old examples are around £14K. Probably get one new for that if you haggled hard enough.

Yeah, they do hold their value well! Haggling (I got mine for £14 incl metallic paint in Oct last year) has gone out of the window now as demand has outstipped supply. Mind you its only an 8-12 week wait, unless you can find a dealer with one.

Try the 180bhp model on offer, it's plenty fast enough. An Octavia RS with the 210 or 225bhp engines would see off most "performance" cars in the VAG group (except perhaps the Audi "S" group of models).

Hi Paul! The only one they seem to have problems with cross country isthe Ibiza Cupra R. The same 180 but in an Ibiza. I tried one with a chip which was scary! Then Octavia is good once rolling, but has trouble from the lights / junctions due to traction (or lack thereof) and the gearing. Once moving though its plenty quick enough and the top speed is very good. Agree that 4x4 and 225 would be nice, rather than my 221 and 2wd!

My 180bhp and 2wd has seen off everything so far, apart from a Boxster and he could not leave me....his face was a picture as we drew alongside each other at the roundabout to go our different ways....a mixture of suprise and embarrassment. We hit a very naughty 125mph before running out of dual carriageway.

Had the same with an XKR convertible, the look on his face was a picture, but neither of us wanted to go over a ton. Did pull over and have chat, nice guy who couldn't believe it was a Skoda!

Now on my second chip. Currently a modified Superchip, also changed the exhaust and the DV. Uprated the brakes. Currently waiting for a better fitting exhaust, sport/racing CAT and very large FMIC. Also trying to source a K04 turbo.

Must admit that they are pretty effective , but I found that they did start to fade on track or fast cross country, so I thought, "why not upgrade them a wee bit, after all, it does have more power, better safe than sorry!". Didn't increase the size (unlike someone I know), kept them at 312x25. They are now the Group N slotted and drilled with greenstuff for the road and redstuff for the 'ring. More bite than standard. Just need to put the braided lines on and swap to Castrol RS DOT5 - I like my windscreen so much, its nice to kiss it occasionally!
