Fiesta ST brakes
Does anyone know if there's known problems with the brakes on Fiest ST's?
A mate has one and reckons the brakes are iffy. He says they're very wooden feeling and the car takes a lot of stopping. It's only a couple of months old and not even had it's first service (but driven enough to be bedded in by now). Any reason they'd be crap?

Not driven a Fezza St. But knowing Fezzas tend to have less servo assistance, the brake feel is alot more "real". As in the pedal is hard and you need more effort to stop (although not that much pedal movement).
This generally is against the grain to many modern cars which have over assisted brakes where very little pedal pressure is required to headbut the windscreen, and the pedal feel is more spongy.
So I guess it maybe down to what your "mate" was used to driving beforehand. If he's used to French cars, VAGs or anything else it may come as a bit of a suprise. (personally I like under-assisted brakes - keeps me in touch with reality ).

Don't these things have a brake reversion mode if the ABS is u/s? I remember someone talking it at work, if the ABS goes a bit dodgy, then it reverts back to a 'lesser' system which doesn't give as good a braking feel.
I'd take it back to the garage either way and get them to check it out.

He had a Fiesta 1.4 before it (new shape) and drives a Ford Connect van so I'd expect they should all feel pretty similar. I'll get him to check in with a dealer re the reversion mode.

Pads glazed? I mean, new car, probably driven 'sedately' whilst running in so no reason for any hard braking - unless he drives like a kn*b of course ... ! Try a day of hard braking to see if the braking improves. Just make sure he keeps an eye on the rear view mirror ...
