Default Astra 888 CDTi

Been having a look at these with interest.....

100 made, 200ps, 0-60mph in 6 1/2 secs, 45mpg

Quite nice looking aswell IMO, sounds like a great all rounder.

Any thoughts????

Full recaro interior also I believe I personally like them, though were they not an aftermarket tuned car for vauxhall?

Yep it was a partnership between Triple Eight Race Engineering (responsible for the VXracing touring cars) and Thurlby Motors, a Lincolnshire based Vauxhall dealership chain.

I think 6.5 secs is a little optimistic... nearer the 7.2secs IIRC

As well as the Scoob I've had an Astra SRi Sporthatch (on which the 888 is based) from new for almost 3 years now, and I have to say it's been an excellent motor.. not a thing wrong with it since I've owned it... and not a creak or rattle inside either (to answer the plasticy comment). Personally I think the cabin is pretty good quality, it's light years ahead of any scoob I've been in for materials quality... including the 2008 model.

what do you think about residuals. A full search of autotrader reveals on 2 for sale in the whole country at the mo both around 15k. Not bad for a car that was 19k? i think 2 years ago

I'd have thought the residuals were pretty good... due to the limited run of only 100. Whilst they were an aftermarket thing (which whilst basically true is a bit of a misnomer, considering they hadn't been sold to an end user before going to Triple Eight, and were sold by a VXL dealership with full warranties afterwards) they are pretty much recognised as a limited edition model in their own right.

They were just shy of £18K when new, I remember they were just a couple of hundred more than a new Astra SRi CDTi 150 which seemed bonkers at the time!

I'd have thought somewhere in the region of 13-15k, depending on quality/spec is probably somewhere in the right region, also bearing in mind it's predecessor the 2002 Astra 'G' Triple Eight Coupe still sells from 8.5 - 10K

Still there's no getting away from the VXL badge, and whilst based on their recent cars I think it's a little unfair.. but it doesn't help with the residuals!

A low mileage good condition 150 diesel astra with a remap/exhaust/intercooler would be cheaper.

Guy up here just swapped his for a 355bhp supercharged civic. I preferred the astra!

My filter/remapped Skoda Fabia vRS managed a 6.6 0-60 sprint with no preparation at all [no weight losing tricks or lowered pressures etc etc]. I think the astra could manage it

While not impossible I find that hard to believe. How was it timed? (not saying it isn't true but I've seen highly modified Skabias fail to make that sort of time. Certainly good to 100 but they struggle for traction off the line.

Hi

I can understand you skepticism. But rest assured, it was official timing at Donnington when I competed in the Tuner GP 2005.

I'm not saying it couldn't manage it... but at point of sale nearer the 7 second mark would have been more accurate, and these were sold to be everyday runners that last, with no additional servicing & maintenance hit than the manufacturers standard schedule, and without losing the warranty... all for about £200 more than the standard CDTi 150

That's a great time as I said I wasn't saying it wasn't true but it takes a good driver to get that sort of result out of a fwd car with all that torque.

I'd have thought your average driver would likely be in the low 7's, likewise the astra.
