Someone I know had a 1.6 from new and it needed a couple of engine rebuilds - Vauxhall eventually replaced the car with a Vectra.

I also know of another low mileage car (1.4) that needed about £800 spending on an engine rebuild.

I agree with Pete (in this instance - not on the gold wheels issue!) - much better with a Puma.

IMHO
Driven a couple of Tigras and my other half owns a Puma
Puma is a much better car in every way.

Things i really did not like about the Tigra
Due to the wider wheels the inner wheel arch intrudes into the cabin - the brake and accellerator pedals are too close together, this can lead to some pretty scarey moments.

Nasty things!

Buy a Puma the Tigra is a very poor attempt at a coupe and they go through heads like Scoobys use Super Unleaded. I test drove the Tigra and Puma and I waited a while for the Puma because it's a well sorted car and I still say the most fun car I have ever owned.
