Shocked at the price of CLK AMG 55
Hi all,
I was shocked the other day when i wondered into a car centre to see a car i never have considered buying as i thought they were mega money but a W reg 70k FMSH all for £11,195...
I think that is alot of car for your money considering they were 50k when brand spanking new...
Anybody have experiance of these?

5 to 11 MPG that's why they are cheap
I drove a CLK 430 again last week (I used to have one from new) managed 24MPG on the motorway, 7 around town.
Sound like thunder, a bit soft though.

You won't think it is a great price when something significant goes wrong. These prices are 100% accurate...replacement CD player for my Civic £1000, Sat Nav (just the control box, not the screen) £5000. Thank God for the warranty! I dread to think of the price of Merc parts and you WILL need them.

hey youre scaring me now - do they go wrong often? wasnt thinking of getting one to be honest - are they quicker than a e46 m3?
If i was to swap my sti type r it would be a newer evo, skyline, lotus esprit v8 turbo or something else what pops up.

25 mpg for an SLK 55 is very creditable, is that being careful ?
Sometimes I get the feeling with cars that between 20 and 35 is acheivable in pretty much anything, ok massive SUV's notwithstanding but 25 MPG in a what 350 BHP Merc, say you got a 1.6 Focus it will do 35 ish, considering the fact the Merc is massively faster, a lot heavier a 10 MPG penaly doesnt seem so bad, I suppose to accelerate and maintain speed in any car is depandant on so many factors but the basic fact remains that to accelerate a given mass to a given velocity it will take a certain amount of effort.
Therefore, buy the Merc !

My current car is a CLK55 AMG and fuel consumption is not that bad. I've checked and the computer is accurate and over the last 1100 miles i've averaged 21 mpg. It will do 27 mpg on a run and obviously less if you really boot it. It's not the best drivers car i've owned but it has a stonking engine with more torque than you could ever want and is luxurious with all the toys.

Very different, Impreza is sharp and precise and feels quick when the turbo gets going. The AMG is softer with less feedback but has loads of low down grunt. It's more of a grand tourer than sports car. Impressive 0-60 times that wont wrek your clutch suprises many.
On a fast flowing road the AMG is in its element with great handling. The push when you floor it at 70 is very impressive. A twisty back road is where the Impreza excels, especially in the wet.
The CLK55 could really do with a LSD as it will spin the wheels to easily.

Have an SL55 AMG with F1 Pack and during fun times its anywhere from 6-10mpg generally around the 8mpg mark.
On a long trip (well long'ish) from Cambridge to Birmingham we saw 17mpg

My last ride was an S500L and I was seeing 28 mpg. You must be driving the CLK exceedingly hard (regularly) to see those economy figures, or there's something wrong with it !!

No personal experience but Clarkson has been slagging the modern merc build quality for years, and he likes them! Reliability seemed to stop at the W24 so servicing and bits to keep it running will not be cheap.
Can think of a good point though, as a 2000 car on a W it would get cheaper road tax than a newage WRX!!!
