Default Audi A3 2.0 TDI

Folks

Looking at buying one of these.

It's done 88k but has full dealer history and they appear to be motorway miles.

What are they like on the mpg front and do you know of anything mechanical that they are prone too?

Thanks folks.
Cheers

I've got one as a company car.

MPG wise I get about 45mpg, split roughly 50/50 motorway and London traffic. I do like to put my foot down and see the black smoke come out the back, which may influence this somewhat though...

Mine's an '05 plate, and has done about 64k. So far it's had an issue with the cooling system which left it stranded, new clutch and flywheel, and recently refused to start (Audi couldn't figure out why). Also has some niggling electronic issues with the accessories which Audi can't diagnose either.

That said, it is a nice car and goes fairly well. It's worth finding one with the Bose system as it sounds great.

Hope this helps

Depending on the model (140 or 170) head gasket problems, have a look on New A3/S3/Sportback (8P Chassis) - Audi-Sport.net

I've got a 2.0 TDi Sport with 81k on and recently I've had to change one of the rear wheel-bearings, and there's another one going (I think one of the fronts)

This is a common problem on these - ask on forums and some people have had multiple replacements. Saying that it's not a massively expensive job from a non-audi garage.

I get 50mpg from a motorway/some town commute. Had mine remapped from 140bhp to 185bhp which has resulted in some extra punch, but surprisingly MPG doesn't seem to have suffered. Wheel-spin is an issue now however, with traction control light on in 1st,2nd and 3rd if the road is even slightly damp.

Build quality of the interior isnt as good as the A4 I had previously, but still better than the mk5 Golf etc, and probably the 1-series.

Edit: It's actually the complete hub you need to change on these - can't change just the wheel bearings.
