Yep I've got one - bloody good motah, when the soddin' thing wants to run OK

And yep you should be able to get a good M/N/P reg for OK money if you are ok with buying an import, but expect to pay a bit more for a UK car and especially if from a dealer - but there are great examples out there if you put the effor in to find one. Have a shufty at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GT-Four-Owners-UK/

Hi Mozza,

Ive got 2, an ST205 and an ST205 WRC, Ive had my 205 for 3 years and its been brilliant, although they're not light cars (1450 kg) theyre built like tanks, no piston slap, clutch judder, stone chip/ paint flake problems. 3 services have cost me about £500 in total, but I did have to have a new clutch (£450) and supension bushes (£400) so not too bad at all. Driving wise they're deceptively quick (due to twin entry turbo) 0-60 in about 5.2'ish, but theyre also quite refined which puts some people off.
Modifying wise your looking at 350 bhp on standard internals and transmission, and it can be pricey getting there (5-6K) but hey this was a £30K car that can now be picked up for as little as £7.5K for an early A1, low mileage example!
Other benefits are rarety, pretty (relatively ) and not many people know what they are, or what they go like! i.e never raced a Nova and never been pulled by plod

As Harry (fellow lurker )says, check out the GT4 forum for more info!

Not twin turbo, twin entry turbo, so I assume that means it has two entry points for air intake, rather than two seperate turbo's, but Im not sure.

I have driven 2, an import, and a UK one. Very nice, solid cars, with superb build quality.
The things that let it down for me, were the sheer weight, awful seats/interior, and the disinvolving driving experience, due to the levels of refinment.

If you want sheer performance whilst cruising comfortably, might be a good choice, but I did some research, and the engine can be very expensive to have work done on, though its a performance car, so not entirely unexpected.

didnt think a 2.0 engine needed 2 turbos!! i dont like the sound of it now, hard to work on and un reliable is not a good thing.

Seriously don't be put off by the GT4 its an amazing car.

Just the other day I went out for a test drive in a GT4 RC (1992) which is the same as a uk carlos sainz version. The only mod was an increase to 12psi and it was fantastic fun. Handling was supurb and they are so rare - especially carlos sainz, RC or the newer st205 versions. The weight makes it a very safe car but you don't notice the weight when you are doing 100+. The newer versions (st205) would eat a uk scooby turbo at top end speed (155mph) and they do 0-60 in 5.9. They are well worth considering. I should be picking my RC up in a couple of weeks - I love the rarity cause to be honest the scooby is far far too common even though they are a superb car!

Respect to both cars!

Mark

Erm...GT4's are renouned for being virtually unburstable, and if you think £1500 for servicing and repairs over a 3 year period is a lot, then I guess they're not for you.

IntegraR - Fair point about the disenvolment due to weight tho, but this can be rectified with the help of TRD ...as for the interior, take out your red Recaro's and titanium gear **** and you too are left in Jap black blandness ...oh and dont break them nice seats cus Honda will charge you £3K....each!

PS EVO issue 26 has a buying guide, and if you want to see what the performance is like look here...

http://www.alltrac.net/links.html

...and check out the ST205 stuff, you maybe surprised!

Dont worry Daz, I rate the Integra's interior as being even worse than the Celicas, but as I was looking for a change of car, I wanted the interior to be something a little more special, and as cr@p as the Integra's is, I still felt the Toyota's wasnt particullaly good either.

Aparently one model comes with factory fitted Recaros, which would certainly help, and the dash on the GT4 is solid, the UK one I drove has 98000 miles on it!! and drove like it had left the factory yesterday, extremely good quality of fitment.
Little things like changing gear ***, nice radio system etc would help (and defo new front seats), could make all the difference.

The cost issue came up when I found out that because of the size and layout of the engine, it has to be removed to do certain work. The general running costs appear high, but as I said, its a 230 odd BHP rally rep, so you should expect costs to be higher than a Mundeo or whatever.

That weight was a problem, I found it made the car feel disconnected, but thats me, and coming from a Teg, most cars do.
It had a high amount of grip, but very little ffedback (IMHO), so cornering is a completely remote affair, I couldnt get a feel for when it may let go or anything.

Best advice, drive it, there are a number of imports available, as well as decently priced UK cars, and it should be a consideration as I cant imagine it'd cost any more to run than an STi v2.

TegR,

I think the only way you can go from a Teg with regard to feel is an Elise, or a go-kart and as for Jap interiors...I think the most flattering way to describe them is...functional ...mind you if go for a GTV youll be begging for Jap blandness after about a month of squeeks

I had an MR2 Turbo for 3years just over..

No problems with it at all.. I upped the boost to 15psi for 40,000miles of it too.. no problems..

I replaced the MR2 with a Scooby, considered a GT4... only reason I plumbed for the Scooby in the end was that I needed the extra space of a 5door really.

They are a twin Entry Turbo which is as it says the turbo has two entries for the air...

You can run the GT4 I believe up to 17psi (only 15psi easily on the MR2 due to heat problems causing pinking in a rear engined car)... which for the 200bhp engine (before 93 in the MR2) is about 270bhp and about 300bhp in the after 93 engine at 17psi... the GT4 is I believe the same engine.

Check out http://www.fensport.co.uk/ for what can be done with this engine... they have fitted it to a Corrolla...
Fensport is a good source for parts... not connected just dealt with them for parts when I had my MR2..

A lot of car for a little money!
