£4k to spend, car advice please for sister??
I'm looking to buy my sister a little present for a big occasion and have decided on getting her a new motor.
She is 22 and like most girls of this age likes smallish cars that are quite 'funky', have a smidgen of poke about them but noting too much to handle, basically something they can look ok in, you get the idea. She currently drives a Pugeout 206 1.1L which was her first car after passing her test at 17.
Requirements for the new car being:
As stylish as possible for £4k
Fuel consumption is not an issue so petrol or diesel
As new as possible, 2002-3 onwards I'd hope for
Cheap to run, service and parts etc
The usual luxuries associated with a £4k car
Any suggestions appreciated
Cheers

At that age she'll be looking at a Ka. You can get a run-in one for that sort of money.
Or, a slightly older Polo maybe? For her age, and the associated insurance costs a Ka (late one) is a good bet as it'll be only a few years old.

Ultra-stylish is Alfa 147. Not sure how much time she'd like it being fixed though.
Also Citroen C2 or C3, and I can even see one Pluriel for that price, it's about as funky as you can get.

Daihatsu YRV 130 turbo. It's an automatic, and part of the Toyota franchise.

Daihatsu Sirion Rally II. 50 mpg, very quick for 1.3l with 0-60 in around 8 seconds. Decent build with aircon, leccy windows, central locking , folding mirrors, decent alloys etc.
Legendary Daihatsu reliability and looks pretty cool, bit girly but very stylish.
My other half bought one and we've both been amazingly impressed with the whole package from running costs, performance, handling, build, the whole lot. So good I was thinking of one.
Generally go for 2.5-4k dependant on mileage.
