It would appear the CTR engine is not entirely all it seems. Most RR figures are giving around 205bhp, as opposed to Honda's insurance friendly 197. The JDM cars have 215bhp from a simple increase in compression and higher octane fuel. The 220 ish figure for the induction kit seems about standard. One problem being that it isn't an official kit, but a bast@rdised ITR kit which requires serious bracket bending to fit. It's also based on a Blitz kit which are poor for filtration. Another website had a comparison between this, HKS, Apexi and K&N units. All gave an extra 13-15bhp but the Apexi had superb filtration. I'd wait for the offical kits to arrive folks. In this weather, the 'standard' 205 is more than enough for the front wheels. Believe me, I can get 'spin in 3rd at 60mph!!!

So is it the same engine as the S2000 and they just strangle it a bit as per Boxter S v. 911.
You don't want the "cheap" model having the same bhp as the flagship model after all?

No, the CTR doesn't have the same engine as the S2000. It's an entirely new engine. The S2000 has a VTEC that's been treated in the same way as an STi engine over a standard Scooby. The CTR is the new iVTEC engine that has two VTEC zones and much improved torque over the old one. Net result is much more available power across the range but less of a kick at 5500 when the VTEC comes into play properly.

Less of a kick, but only because the torque is more evenly spread. The iVTEC engine code is K20 whereas the S2000 is F20 so they are completely separate. Both have similar torque at around 7000rpm but the iVTEC has 90% available from 3000rpm. The S2000 most definently doesn't!!!
The S2000s extra 40bhp is partly a result of the 9000rpm redline, as opposed to 8000 on the CTR. The main reason for it being strangled is the new ITR. That has 220bhp but weighs 45kg more than the CTR in normal lux guise (there is a completely stripped version at 1175kg though, standard is 1250). If Honda UK import it they'll need to justify the extra 4-5k they'll no doubt charge.
Incidentally, they non strangled JDM CTR has 215bhp.
