Audi RS4
Now let me start off saying that i'm not one to bull**** when it comes to racing etc...Okay i'll begin.
On the way to work on Thursday as usual and joining the motorway with an RS4 in front of me and an astra in front of him.
Started going down the slip and as it goes into 2 lanes the RS4 overtook the astra and i followed. He sped up quickley and i thought he was going to show me up as he had seen me in his mirror.Next thing he looks in his mirror again changes down a cog! (I'm assuming he was in 4th and went to 3rd?!) and loads of crap flies out of the twin pipes. We were going about 45 ish before he changed down.
I'm still in 3rd at this point buzzing at 3.5K right in my sweet spot so i gun it after him....but then....i stayed up his **** up to about 100 mph the motorway was pretty dead at this point and lets face it 100 can come pretty quick once you put your foot down so i wasn't acting the fool.We both backed off then and settled in the middle lane at about 80 then i just admired the beast for a bit.
PLEASE somone tell me one of my dream cars was being driven by somone who hasn't got a clue how to drive and that i'm not as quick as a 400 brake RS4.

I will say a lightly modded STi (say around 340-350bhp) will keep with an RS4 all the way until a ton - power to weight and all that plus an STi has great gob fulls of midrange torque - after that however the extra power will com into its own, i did the same in my 260bhp with an RS6 once and yep ok up to 90 i did ok but then it just fooked off like a scaled cat, it was unreal, spanked me good and proper.
A car has to have an absolute stack of power more than the other car to make a big difference on the road - say 100bhp or so before it makes a big difference

I assume your car is an STI PPP and having owned a blobeye STI PPP myself there is no way with an 'over' estimated 305bhp you would stick to an RS4. I can only assume he was humouring you.....
An RS4 is on my future car list by the way

I know what i would rather own though
MY06 Subaru no thanks, only slightly better looking than a bug
Prodrive quote an MY06 STI PPP 0-60 4.8 & 0-100 in 12.2, bit slower than an RS4............

I owned a well sorted 370/70 jdm sti before selling on to get my current RS4.
Assuming your 'view my scooby' is correct (and with no offence intended) the rs wins hands down on a striaght road. Get in to the tight & twisties and things may even out a bit but straight line speed is the rs's party piece. I would go as far as to say a sti ppp wouldn't stand a chance either.
On a separate issue I have noticed myself the amount of crap that comes out the back when you put your foot down. It is a by-product of the direct fuel injection system and completely normal but its a bit worrying at first!

Also most V8 RS4 are struggling to show much over 370BHP on the dyno. I followed one which had molten metal coming out of the exhaust...got to love the noise though

I think its fair to say its also not all about 0-100mph.
The 90% of the time, when you're not ragging your car, but sat in convoys of traffic, or on the commute, the Audi will be a far nicer place to sit than some Japanese plastic inspired interior with silver plastic/aluminium lookalike type trim.
Being able to have the turn of speed to keep you in front of an STi just makes it even nicer when you do get your foot down.

Well, I'm in a pretty good situation to comment.
I have a 05 STI PPP
My old man has a 06 RS4.
An STI can keep up pretty well with a RS4 up a certain point. The RS4 comes into it's own when it uses the revs. Just the other week I was following my old man and when he was overtaking at about 45mph. I was easily keeping up with him.
However, when we got onto the dual carriage way and he opened his car up, there was no way I could keep up. Just constantly pulling away from me.
Drive a RS4 and below 4500 revs, you just don't think they're that fast. Get it into the higher revs however, and the thing starts pulling like a train.
To drive on a back road, the STI is a more fun car, as you get the wallop in the back when the Turbo starts spooling and second gear feels like it could waste an RS4. The higher the speed though, the better the RS4 gets.
Given the choice, I'd have an RS4 over a STI anyday.

To comment "on the Rollers that there is only 370BHP", will open a can of worms......... Thought we all knew why the rollers are tricked by the car as ive seen a dyno use 3rd gear on the RS4 . Unfortunately this means the partial throttle opening effect from the ecu is there, unless you remap. Quite why audi put this throttle opening restriction in 1st to 3rd under 5,500 rpm I don't know. Try 4th different bhp reading altogether.. Also depends on transmission loss figure used..... 15 - 28% have been used in the past. hell thats a wide range
What counts is real world

Well thanks for the replys..
It was joining the M53 at about 8 am Scoobysnack
Not sure were all the ideas of what scooby i've got have come from! lol
Basically it's just a 96 WRX which has been fully decatted...Front mount cooler..K&N etc..nowt special.Probably running about 280 at a guess but it is loving this cold weather
Bringing power to weight into it maybe it is an important factor..he must weigh a shed load more than me.
I rekon he was trying ish but just dosn't know how to drive the thing properley and got suprised?? Anyhow it's still on my dream list

Some good points have been made on this thread. The rs is about more than out and out pace. It has penty of poke when needed but most of the time mine is stuck in 30mph zones or worse - traffic jams! If you have sat in one than you'll know what i mean when i say there aren't many better looking/feeling cabins about at the moment. Yes a type 25 will be quicker but its still a 45k impreza made from cheap plastic....
The other thing i noticed when i had the STI was that it drew lots of attention (and not that it bothered me in the slightest) but i know a fair few people would think 'wa*ker' because of what it was/looked like.
I have yet to find one person who doesn't like the rs, infact i'm getting a bit tired of people telling me how good it looks and sounds at traffic lights.
As with any comparison its swings and roundabouts - my dream garage would have both an rs and sti

to be fair ther not in the same league audis are 50 k subaru sti 25-30k if you compaire a audi 50k with a similar sti ie type 25 40 k + its spanking time for the audi the scooby punch above their weight but rs4 double the price get what you pay for guys
If you can spunk that much on an STI and have it be quicker, more comfortably, classier, better built with a nicer interior, better refinement and not get laughed at when pulling into the £100 a month gym/spa car park then by all means I'll be impressed.

The B7 RS4 is very quick, but through the midrange it doesn't break any records and anything with over 300lb/ft could have a blat with them. They have a modest 317lb-ft@5500rpm and weigh 1800kg's [LINK]
I will agree with the majority, they are fantastic cars, and I so would.......

They are lovely cars, I've driven the cab and the saloon but I'll stick with my B5 RS4. Pretty sure I could keep up with a Type 25, at least in a straight line (!).

I'm a driver for a Prestige Accident Management company and fortunately for me I get to drive virtually every single performance car there is to own. .
Cars range from Ferrari,Bentley,Aston Martin through to all the high performance BMW's and Audi's inc the RS4,RS6 & R8.
Let me say that the RS4 is an absolute beast !! Having owned 3 previous Imprezas inc the ultra lightweight V5 Sti Type Ra ( which is built purely for sprinting ) and a 350bhp Nissan Pulsar the RS4 is a match in a straight line for any Impreza.
I'm speaking purely on having the pleasure of driving and experiencing these cars at 1st hand. Any of the drivers where I work would take the RS4 home for the weekend over any other car ( Not inc Ferraris,Astons etc as we can't take them home ) and that inc the M3,M5,M6,Porsche Carrera's etc.
RS4's the daddy...

Couple of different people have posted this recently, where does the info come from? It's a shame if true as I'd hoped to get one next ... only if it's 414bhp though
TX.
Edit - looks & sounds amazing of course!
