Question Porsche Tiptronic

Just having a little dream and looking on the Porsche website.

The Boxster tiptronic accelerates considerably slower than the Boxster manual.

However, the 911 turbo tiptronic accelerates faster than its manual equivalent.

Why is that?

(Serious question; limp-wristed / hairdresser jokes are a bit predictable...)

I can pinpoint Porsche's downfall (imo) at the point when they start selling automatic gearboxes on the 911 (993) (and fitting power steering ).

Ignoring the 911 sportmatic, of course

One thing I can say is Turbos work far better with automatic gearboxes. As full throttle can be applied during gearchanges, so the turbo stays on spool through all the gears, where with a Manual there is a momentary lag between gearchanges. This obviously affects 0-60 times etc.

Could be that - I've gone back and had a look and the Carrera tiptronic is also slower than the manual...

It is only in the 997TT that Tiptronic in it's latest guise is faster than manual. The 996TT Tiptronic I am getting (in other post) is slower than a manual version. However, to achieve maximum figure in the manual, you must get everything right and hopefully not destroy the clutch. In the Tiptronic it will achieve the same figures every time with no drama.
