V8/V12

V8/V12
well I have had a highly modified impreza for years and I think it's time to start thinking of a normal car!! I'm not in a hurry to get my next car but the shortlist is v8 porsche cayenne turbo 500 bhp out of the box not a rocket but a quality car. I can possibly stretch to a 2004/5 reg ?? my other choice is an aston marin db7 vantage v12 possibly 2001/2 ?? I like the aston but the interior looks well naf ?? the cayenne tops my list for everything but the thought of the aston martin is the v12 really that good ??? also does anyone have any idea what road tax groups these years would fall in ???

"porsche cayenne" or as I call it "poor crying men" is prolly a bad option as you wil have to use the petrol station at least twice a day and not only that but you will look like a muppet driving one of those, and you dont want that do you?
Go for the Aston, that has class and is readily sold off again if required.
Dont forget: Porsche: recent frontal lobotomy.

You ask about road tax. Is this an issue? This will be WAY down the list of costs involved in running an Aston or Cayenne pepper.
Nice cars I'm sure but WILL be expensive to run. If you try to run one on the cheap then it'll be a bugger to sell later on, a false economy to skimp.
However, if you can afford the running costs, the Vantage has to be one of THE cars in the world today to have Have you looked at the interior in the flesh, i.e NOT from photo's, they don't do them justice.

I ask about road tax , as I keep hearing about the £3k road tax band for these type of cars !!!
Want a proper car? Impreza not normal? It's a car with 4 wheels isn't it?
Now you want a Cayenne? oh yeah really run of the mill car that isn't it

I had a Cayenne Turbo Great car, in the end i traded it in for the RR TDV8.
Only problem i had with the Cayenne was the fuel but i claimed most of it back
I am on autotrader website as we speak looking to see what price they command at the moment.

Steve don't kid yourself about the Cayenne.
A friend of mine has the Cayenne Turbo and whilst it suits him, its only one of his cars. He has a DB9 and an M5.
Its bloody big, bloody heavy and bloody expensive to run.
When I first bought my UK classic scoob which was absolutely bog standard we had a bit of a side by side play and there was absolutely nothing in it at all. Now I know its not that type of car but having been in your car I know you like to play a bit. You'll be very dissapointed with this. So for me it would be the Aston Everytime.
Incedently is this car aswell as or instead of your current 500bhp scooby?
Would also like to know about your 2.5cdb as I'm just about to go down the same route having my 2.0L CDB sleeved to 2.5. If you could pm me so we dont take this one off topic i'd be grateful.
Cheers

the m5's are nice but I only like the new shape and I can't afford the spend on a 2nd hand one!!
Daz, I have been looking into the cayenne for ages, The fuel costs don't seem to be that bad on the web pages I have seen as it states around 18-20mpg, I don't even see that in my impreza so I would be happy with that
It will be to replace the impreza !

Can't comment on the Porsche but the Aston....
The DB7 Vantage (V12) is quite a nice car to drive as an every day car but it's not the easiest thing to get in and out of. Once you're in they are pretty nice to be in. They can be a bit lively even when feathering the throttle so care is required.
Common problems include air con not working (servo motors which mean dash out), ABS sensors and intermediate looms, door handles (exterior) break and fuel pumps clog up and die causing a running/holding back problem.
Brake pads are over £200 a set for the fronts. Spark plugs are a nightmare as both inlet manifolds need to come off. Air filters are a bit of a pain as they are behind the arch liners to the front of the front wheels and under the head lamps. The fuel filters are also not as straight forwards as they could be but not too bad.
Also known the odd exhaust welds crack (stainless exhaust).
