Peed off with the 335i already
Didn't notice it on the test drive, but pulling out of the dealers yesterday on collecting the car, I stabbed the throttle to pull into a gap, and didn't go anywhere! Instead the inside tyre lit up and lots of people looked around and scowled.
Anyway, after a bit of research to test a theory last night, indeed the bean counters at BMW have decided that a 300bhp rwd car like the 335i doesn't need an LSD
My suspicions are less that it is cost related and more to do with not wanting the performance to start encroaching on that of the M3.
Car is now booked in for a Quaife LSD at Birds in a couple of weeks, but I feel slightly robbed having to go and spend £1500 on something that should undoubtedly be standard on a car like this.
Rant off.
Ed
PS going to get AP's fitted at the same time

It's a pity on teh new BM's that the DSC doesn't work like it used to.
On the older cars, you turn it off, but acts like a virtual LSD. So you stomp on it and when the inside wheel starts to break loose, it puts the brake on that wheel to stop it spinning but still allows full throttle
Did work quite well.
Not sure if you can get it to do this on newer cars. It maybe something like pressing the DSC button for 30seconds or something silly everytime you get in the car

Hartge representatives in the UK (forgot the name) seem to have done a good job with installing Quaife LSDs.
Seems like it gets even better then...................

Just been reading on e90post.com, the septics are saying that it's basically the first mod you should do to the car, before even upping the power. That and ditch the run-flats.

1) You've got too much money!!
2) The reason that it doesn't have a LSD is that it would tred on the M3s toes even more then!!
3) People were right to scowl at you....pushy sod in your beamer...blah, blah, blah!!

They seem to only want to put LSD's on the M's nowadays, not like they used to be. Thats what puts me off most RWD cars nowadays, Boxsters and Caymans are to name a few! But saying that you could always buy one but then why should you when certain cars should come with one anyway!!!

Ed,
Look in the classifieds on E90post. There is a chap there selling his Quaife diff for £325. It's been installed in his E90 330d before. Not sure about the ratings etc of the diff itself, but may be worth finding out if it would be the same for the 335i. Could save you a few quid.

This may be a slightly different issue but traction off the line in the damp with a 2wd high torque car is always a problem. Had this alot in my supercharged AMG, don't have it nearly as much in the M5

What tyres are on the back?
Contisports work well, but don't quite top a set of Michelin PS2s for wet traction.
Both non-run flats, of course

How will the car cope with an LSD when it already has all those other three letter gismos on it? Will it not confuse the poor car even more?
Of course if you get really fed up you could whip the engine out and let me have it for my track car project. I would be peeeerfect

And yes, that includes in the wet. In fact, especially in the wet.
