Golf is faster but Focus handles a lot better, drive both and take your pick

Plus, you can remap the Golf to 180 bhp/300 llbs ft and go and annoy some drivers of quick cars, the Focus will remap but I am not sure to what, wont be anything like the Golf's 130 bhp to 180 bhp.

Will you be fiddling or modding it? If so, the tuning options for the Golf's engine are well know.

I have to admit I haven't got a clue about the tuning potential of the Ford unit. Assuming a common rail TDi it should remap nicely enough. Both would require intercooling upgrades if the modding bug really bit deep.

Must admit it would be nice to take it up to 180 bhp at some point as no matter how much power we get we always end up wanting more.

Think I'll get the Golf, just got to find a good one.

Get the Golf and sort the suspension out - it'll last ages.
Isn't there a higher powered diesel Focus?
That would be my choice - might just be new shape though.

The Golf really does handle quite badly.

My wifes 130 TDI does go well, but handling not inspiring.
Expect a Focus would handle a bit nicer from standard spec.
Best thing is try a test drive.
Residuals in Golf a bit better??
6 speed gear box helps economy in Golf, not sure if Focus has 6 speed box.?

One minute this guy talks about how his golf handled brilliantly and then the next day he rubbishes it.

Buy a Leon TDI best comprimise between a focus and golf.
