Roger.......drove a right hander at Millbrook, last October wonderful little motor, great value for money, and packed a fair punch as well loved the semi automatic gearbox.

Got mine last week, it's fantastic fun. Try it, but give yourself time to get used to the gearchange. It's about as quick as a manual change when you think about it, bur because you aren't doing any clutch stuff it feels like it is taking forever.

I love the Smart as an engineering package solely designed for one purpose. (Kinda like the Rex is designed for one purpose.)
However, prob won't be too enjoyable a performance drive...?

It's loads of fun RT, doesn't understeer if you drive it properly (imagine it's a 911!) and you can easily get the back sliding. Steering communicates better than a Scoob as well. The traction control can be a bit irritating, but there are ways round that apparantly.
Remapping gives 75bhp, 195 width tyres give more grip, further upgrades get you approaching 100bhp and over 120mph (scary). Similar to the range of upgrades available for the Scoob, but much much cheaper.

Test drove a left hooker 6 months ago.
Liked the idea, the space, the finish, cosmetics etc.
Disliked the gearchange.
Hated (scared by) the brakes. Long peddle travel, little effect, no feel.
I do two types of journey - cross town to the office or motorway to airports. I would be seriously interested if they were a little better suited to sustained high speed (80 mph).

I drove a left hooker around town and up and down the busy A3 near Petersfield... no real problems once you're used to it. Auto gearbox mode not very good for pulling away from roundabouts etc, tiptronic is much better, auto is good for in queues though.
There is also chronic understeer, which apparently can be helped by buying a spare pair of rear wheels and sticking them on the front.
Overall very impressed, and amazed I could get in easily and felt comfortable (I am over 6 foot 3 - just). We are aiming to buy one at some point to compliment the Scooby wagon.
Simon.
