Default MK2 Golf VR6

Mk2 VR6

Now I dont like the whole max power malarky.
And most people take a perfectly good classic and just mess it up
But if you are going to do it do it like this....

YouTube - Mk2 VR6

I love Mk2s and felt it was really well done.
Its on Munich plates
I wouldnt do it my self - The last Mk2 I had I restored back to origional condition (many trips to breakers yards later I got it there)

Done correctly it's a great conversion, IMO aesthetically and aurally far superior to the more popular 1.8T conversion

Thanks to the fact that the VR6 motor was designed to fit anywhere that the 1.8 lump resided, they can be (and often are) made to look as if they rolled out of the factory like that

I'm not going to do it to my current 16V, there's something wrong about messing about with a decent example of anything to me, but I think I will be doing this conversion to a lesser model at some point

Agree totaly - if its mint and origional like yours - then leave alone.
If you get a dog - strip it and do something good with it then great.

Mine's not 'mint', yet, watch this space, and it does have a few subtle modifications courtesy of it's previous owner (cheers Sean), but it is a damned good example of the breed

PS: being blue, it's also the wrong colour If I'm going to put my blood and sweat into a VR6 conversion, it's going to be an Atlas Grey one

The Oak Green one was indeed mint and original

apart from the Borbets obviously, but I sold that last year when I came out here

The one I have now I bought earlier this year, on a complete whim (never even viewed it), from a fellow scoobynetter. Thanks again Sean

It's got new, firmer springs and dampers (cant remember the make) a fruity but not loud exhaust, and a TSR tubular manifold. It needs some minor fettling in the paintwork department, the terrible factory speakers need to be binned, and obviously it too will be getting the Borbets, but that will be the limit as far as work goes barring catastrophic engine failure

PS I would recommend the TSR manifold to anyone contemplating a 16V. There doesn't appear to be much more overall power, but the increase in mid-range grunt is astonishing

Couldn't honestly tell you, but I bet Tim Stiles (the TS in TSR) could
