the tdi 150 is a seriously torquey engine and great to drive. just not sure how the car handles.
my old man used to have tdi 150 passat and it seriously pulled very very well for a diesel and a big car.

if you are buying new a gt tdi 170 would probably be very good indeed especially returning over 40mpg average for the performance.

Golf 130PD is the one I'd go for - It's a smoother and more refined unit than the 150, which although powerful, is VERY noisey and has the tiniest powerband ever.
The handling is also terrible - needs sorting with proper shocks pronto.

Of course the Ashtry 150CDTi is much more refined, quicker (same power and torque but a lighter car) and handles properly....

I looked very seriously at the Golf TDIs after selling a mk4 R32 and was shocked at how poor the non R32 mk4 Golfs are.

Mk5 is heaps better althought slower with only 140bhp in the 2.0TDI unit.

Is "heaps" an Aussie term?

If it is, I'm off to the nearest cliff for a spot of low tide jumping.
