Porsche gurus - GT2 Q
Guys my father is seriously considering a 996 GT2 this summer when he sell his current 911.
The question I have is, is it available in white
We've never seen one in this country as the second choice is black, like most of them are.
Cheers

I've posted on the other forum and it appears that yes they were available in that colour but likely to be so rare that we may be unlikely to find one.

Already had a chat to Bob about that when I was over there having mine done
Probably something my dad would consider judging by his current car (Hayward & Scott exhaust/actuator mod etc)

ah, the widowmaker. serious kit, and not the easiest thing in the world to drive, but porbs the ultimate 911.
think i might go for the slightly more sensible gt3 though... but I'm getting fat and old...

Trying to remember, but think the one I came up against a few years back was in white.
I do remember initially being unimpressed as after a spurt off the line, I was easily holding him and could have gone faster round the corner onto a slip road (the guy was obviously being a bit cautious noting RRH's comment). Then I remember the straight bit of the slip road, and it being the most anyone's ever pulled away from mine when I was trying. Definitely a bit on the brisk side.

The 993 GT2 is the one to get. Evo describe it as a "hairy arsed homologation special". I have had a ride in one round Knockhill. It is seriously quick. Most Scoobs hit 110 -115 mph at the end of the 2 straights and corner the twisty bits at 60 - 70 mph. The GT2 hits 135 mph at the end of the straights and takes the twisty bits at 80 - 90 mph. In other words it leaves everything for dead.

Apart from the odd Ferrari, Lambo, TVR, v. "tuned" Skyline/Evo/Cossie, Corvettes there aren't many cars that can get into 8 second bracket to 100

Exactly.
The 993 GT2 is probably a better car but try finding one for under 100k and my father wouldn't even consider a LHD so thats just made that even harder (even if LHD is arguably a better car).
A friend of his had a LHD 993 GT2, it was a lovely car and looked even better on gold centred BBSs, he's still got a 993RS and a couple of others but the GT2 was the one that did it for me.
No, 996 GT2 CS in carrera white if poss with gold BBSs & polished rims........ or yellow with black/polished if not.

A good family friend has one in Arctic Silver Looks
His number plate is perfect for when you put your foot down in that car....
When i sat in it the acceleration was just awesome.... However It's quite a hard ride, and sits so low, so you have to eb careful over bumps etc..., also will kick out the back in the damp even in 3rd gear It happened to him on a tunnel run we went on, he's decided to only drive in the dry
He's now had it mapped to about 550bhp...
It will look amazing in White, I've seen the new 997 TT in white and that was
I think this summer white is the next black.

This is lovely. Don't think its a GT2 but got all the looks.
eBay.co.uk: Porsche 911 (993) 3.6 Turbo (item 320037214157 end time 09-May-07 10:34:25 BST)
Would prefer this shape than any other if I could afford it.

He did consider a 993 Turbo 4S (the 'S' has the vented rear arches, factory engine upgrade and different brakes) originally as the replacement for his. We nearly went to look at this exact car when it was on pistonheads about 3 months ago, although this isn't an S model. Plate is R1 TBO. Been for sale for a fair while now. Has the GT2 wings but no bolt on arch extensions. We dismissed it as the front bumper looked poorly fitted when it was a private sale on PH and something didn't add up (can't remember what now )
Then he considered a 993RS but wanted a few creature comforts so began looking at 996s.
I said to him, the only way to not lose big money is to buy a special car, its the only way, so it seemed a good idea to look for Mk1 GT3s but even they weren't rare enough to not lose lots of money so it had to be a GT3 RS.
Then we had a frank discussion about why it needed to be a GT3 and he decided it was the rawest of the 996s and the best on track.......... which is where he'll probably only take it once or twice EVER!!!
So the GT3 wasn't going to give the same sort of road performance as a GT2 would.... especially a BR'd one
Hence we are where we are, looking for an ultra rare GT2. The colour being the rarity factor as there were no factory specials in that era, other than the Club Sport pack which would be a welcomed addition, but just a white one would do for the rarity factor me thinks.
Just a bit of an insight for you all
If you know of an immaculate Carrera White 996 GT2 CS or standard, with VERY low miles and history/bills for everything PLEASE PM ME!!!!!!!!!

Gt2 is a very serious piece of Kit my mate own's Fearnsport.co.uk based on Silverstone Circuit, he has tuned his mate's 993TT to 620hp 560Lbft
ANd it's wild! He is also looking at converting it to 2 WD
He has about 4 or 5 customers with 993GT2's one of them just sold his for 125k and bought a Carrera GT
That thing lapped Knockhill 5 secs quicker than a Zonda S !
He also has a chap with a 820hp 996 GT2 ive been in that and it's F******g scary as hell 120mph in 3rd gear !
All of the above are genuine 200mph cars as well!
996 gt2 more tuneable though!

When I sold it through a broker, the broker told me afterwards that the dealer that bought it was cheesed off because they needed to replace the discs. Remembering all the "track bred" bumpf saying how they were good for 100,000 miles I said "nahh.. you must mean pads"..
Turns out, my discs WERE fooked and at the time were £12K a set or something ridiculous.. Soon after, Porsche removed those claims from their brochures and wouldn't warranty them unless "used at road legal speeds".
I gather later PCCB are improved, but caveat emptor on older GT2s
