revo etc, there are loads of comapnies that remap these, just google pd 130 remap.

They are regarded as being and engine that is particularly responsive and easy to tune via a remap, also due to the ease of doing it and the competition its not that expensive, 300 quid for a remap or even less for a tuning box which is effective but not the recommended route.

180 bhp and 300 torque or therabouts seem to be the realistic numbers, sometimes remaps are reigned in a bit to be less hard on the clutch.

The 150 engine will go a little higher due to its bigger turbo but not much and the 130 is regarded as the better drive.

Have not driven a remapped one myself but I suspect my next car will have that engine, just not sure what body will be around it, there is plenty of choice !

Would like to get the wifes Sharan 115 remapped but she doesnt want to.

A lot of people on UKPassats.co.uk have had Upsolute maps, they were doing a group buy, IIRC the price is £250 (based in the Midlands).

A contact of mine had his 51 Passat Sport done and it gave 175bhp and 295 ft-lb of torque on a rollin-road day. Not bad for a big old estate

This guy had a second map loaded to cure a little clutch slip he was getting with the original map, for free. He recommends Upsolute highly.

Best check which gearbox the Passat has. The 5-speed manual's had their engine torque limited at the factory (210ft lbs) as it was on the limit for reliable service. The 6-speed manual (228ft lbs) is much stronger and iis the one to have if you are going to up the power.

Probably best speak to one of the tuners / mappers about the options, they may offer a specific map for the 5-speeders that shapes the torque curve better rather than a big spike at 2K rpm (which would also help avoid clutch slip).

I got:

"Tath, there's something wrong with the tyres, i got loads of wheelspin in 3rd coming home last night, the TC light was going crazy". Ahem.

I've told her now due to the obvious safety concern lol.

"you take it off, you take it off, you take it off, you take it off..." etc

Now she's used to the power she doesn't want it off though, really transforms the car tbh. The big wallop of torque 1800-2000 that I used to get is still there (even bigger), but instead of nosediving off, it remains pretty high to 4k.
