How do I tell if my car has a DPF?
Hello All,
I thought buying some oil for the Golf (GT TDi 140) was going to be straight forward until I learned that it depends on whether the car is fitted with a DPF or not?
D.P.F = Diesel Particulate Filter.
I've scanned the user manuals intensely and cannot find any information to state that my car actually has one of these fitted.
Is there some simple way of finding out?
Comments Appreciated

You might have to check with the selling dealer ... is the car very new?
If it's just for topping up, then maybe buy the oil spec for the DPF cars anyway. With the older PDs you can happily mix the longlife 506.01 with the "normal" 505.01 PD oil without problems.
For what it's worth, I get the PD oil for my Passat (505.01 spec) from the local Audi dealer -- for some reason it's £2 per litre cheaper than the VW or Skoda dealer and a LOT cheaper than Halfords ...

If you get a warning light every 2 weeks, it has a DPF, if not it hasn't.
I'm getting a new Octavia vRS later this month and am pleased it is a co. car as there a few tales on Briskoda about teething problems with the DPF and engine.

i get no warning lights.
I actually called VW customer service early on in the week and the chap told me all post 2005 Golf Diesels had DPF's fitted. I don't believe this somehow as the pricelist for new TDi's shows only the 170 with this feature.
