Anyone had a TT engine conversion on a golf?
We've come into possession of an M reg Golf Driver. Its done 130K but the last 90K have all been via a relative who spent most of her time going up and down the M4.
Its a bit tatty here and there but otherwise a perfectly decent car. My GF really likes it and rather than spending cash on a new car we don't know, she'd quite like to tidy this one up and make it more her own.
We were thinking that we want to leave it completely standard on the outside except maybe wheels and a little lowered but the idea is to make it as stock as possible. BUT I mentioned that its quite common to put 1.8TT engines in them and shes all for it. She has a mate who has a TT and it really gets to her how much this girl rams TT ownership down her throat.
Would be amusing to have a TT engined golf sleeper for the misses.
Any ideas as to price? Wouldn't be after big bhp figures, 225 should be more than enough.
Just a thought anyway.
TIA

Would be intrested to hear some replys on this thread, Was talking about this conversion yessterday with my brother, who is thinking of dropping the TT/S3 1.8T lump into a Mk 1 Golf as a new project!!!
Been trying to look for prices so he could get a rough idea on how much the engine is going to cost, and judging on e bay prices they are usually 1000-1500!!!
Were going to have a sit down tomorrow and try and work out how much the whole project is going to cost, before making and descisions, so it would be intresting to hear if anyone has done this conversion and websites that could help!!!
Glad you started this thread EddScott, I was too tired to write it up yesterday, so im glad someone has asked!!!!!

Bloody hell. Thats expensive!!
Probably even more so as we are starting out with a driver and not a GTI.
A mate whos ex-pug can churn out MI16 205s like sweets so might ask him if he could have a look into this for us.

Do it by all means, but not for that reason.

True. But then shes can't afford a TT and by the looks of it she can't afford the above so shes going to have to put up with the jibes.

M reg, thats a MK3 isnt it, if it is I really wouldnt bother, a Mk1 yes, a mk2 yes but a MK3 is a waste of time as they look poo and need a lot of work to make them handle, we bought a brand new 1.8 cl (same engine as the drive) and it was the most yawn inducing car we have ever owned, ok it could be fun with a TT lump in it but pretty much whatever you do they still look crap, plsu they are heavier so the extra horsepower doent go as far as in a Mk or 2.

I know a few people with 1.8t converted cars. Traction permitting, they're pretty quick.
