18k fun car?
Hi guys,
Anothe one of them lame questions, but needs must.
At the minute I have a Vauxhall VX220 Turbo and I am looking to sell it on and move onto something different. The problem I have is everything else seems so boring in comparison to the vx.
So far I have looked @:
Focus ST (too boring and common)
Vauxhall VXR (boring)
Nissan 350z (too big)
Various TVRs (not a good time to buy a TVR)
Golf R32 (not very quick)
On my maybe list so far is:
Porsche Boxster S (I would want the face lift one though, which is hard to get in budget unless high mileage. Unsure about service and parts costs as well going from a VX which costs pennies to service)
Mitsi lancer 8 MR (Really like these and very tempted, just 4k service intervals is a bit of a kick in the teeth)
Audi TT (I found a version of the TT which is a bit more hardcore that has bucket seats and roll cage etc)
BMW M3 (Prices have fallen recently so these can be picked up cheaply now, all out of BMW warranty though whch is a concern)
Honda S2000 (Nearly bought one of these when I got the VX220, still tempting)
So...
A fair few car cars that interest me, but I have no idea what direction to take.
Anybody got any words of wisdom?
Cheers
Bren

Spend 15k on an MY02 (i.e. has glass rear screen) S2000 (hurry before the nice weather comes and the prices rise) and then spend the remainder getting it supercharged? Lots of info @ Forums -> UK S2000 Owners !

ummm , while i hate to say it.
take an mx5, turbo it, strip it, uprate the suspension, uprate the brakes and put some semi slicks on, you'll have change from 10k and it will pap on any of the cars you've mentioned, put it on track and it will pap on 99% of cars out there.

It depends on how practical you want it??
I sold my E46 M3 last year and replaced it with a modded Leon Cupra R and an Ariel Atom.
The Atom, after looking at all the usual culprits (TVR's,VX220/220 Turbo,Elise's etc),was a completely different prospect altogether, and proved you don't always have to have huge amounts of power to have fun.And while not totally practical, with some decent waterproofs and some warm clothes, you can have even more fun when it rains!!!

what do you think of the e46 m3 compared to the lcr you have now?
which do you prefer and do you think your modded lcr is a match for the m3?
running costs performance etc?

At the minute I only have room for one car. So a track day special is a bit of a no no, needs to commute to work every day about 7 miles, so not very far.
I don't mind impractical cars though, hence owning a VX220 as an every day car.
S2000 supercharged sounds interesting, must cost a lot to do though. Will check out the link you put.

IMO the M3 was very over hyped and a complete disappointment which is why i only kept it 6 weeks.
The LCR was brilliant once it was remapped, lowered a bit etc and i kept that 9 months(a long time for me).
Part of the reason the M3 was so disappointing may well be down to the cost in the first place.................maybe i expected more for the money, but when so many people rave about them,i just could not understand why!!
Again,IMO there are much better cars and for much less money, but as always, there are plenty that like them,so if you are tempted yourself, drive one and see what you think...................just make sure you take it for a good long drive, especially on roads that you love and see how it compares to others cars you have owned.
As much as it pains me to admit it though,i sold the LCR and bought a 2000 Model Classic Turbo Impreza last October as a cheap winter runabout(with performance AND grip),and as an all round car found it pretty hard to beat which is why i have just replaced it with a '54 Plate UK STI PPP .

E46 are great cars, sure not everyone is impressed by them, and they take some getting used to, but they are serious drivers cars...
I know how you could feel disappointed with it, but for most people its a helluva car!

That's why i stated "in my opinion".
However,i have owned 9 different BMW's over the years, and numerous other high performance/drivers cars, and the M3 just does not stack up to all the hype.......................ultimately,there are better cars out there, again IMO .
