Audi TT 1.8 with 360bhp?????
Is this possible?
Even with a big turbo wouldn't you have problems with the internals? have to upgrade the fueling systems, air induction, injectors, gearbox, diff etc???
I've heard someone that thinks that 360bhp (400 with a shot of nos) could be had out of a 1.8 quattro??
If he replaced the lump with a 3.2 then I could see that kind of power being made but with a 1.8????

The TT engine is different from the normal 1.8 Turbo unit in so far as it has forged internals (so i've heard)
with the right fueling and turbo 400bhp can be achieved.
in fact didn't that silly mad TT with twin engines have 800bhp? twin 400bhp units.

So it has to have the internals done then?
That makes sense....
Didn't think the basic car could handle all that new power though....

There are plenty of TT`s around with large BHP numbers , its quite easily acheived and reliable , I`ve driven a few. I`ve seen one with NOS aswell that takes it even higher.

My friends Mk1 VW scirrocco has a 1.8t. Was getting high 11`s last year with fwd and about 350bhp (iirc). This year he has fitted 4wd and has a bigger turbo which once remapped will be somewhere between 450-500bhp..plus 75bhp nos. 550+ bhp per tonne should be fun in a roadcar...and it still looks reasonably std.

Not sure about that...I thought I'd heard about the 350bhp..then 400 with nos b4 it blew. I can't imagine a std 1.8 t surviving 800bhp on std but I suppose if anyone knows MTM would know ( I suppose the question would be how long would it last tho lol)

Love your car
Is it road legal still? Whats the insurance like?

Glad you like it
Yep, fully road legal.. has done more road than track miles in my ownership so far.. that said, there aren't any creature comforts.. no rear view mirror, no heating, the metal bulkhead is deafening.. just seats, a wheel, a STACK dash.. its quite quick too Insurance is about £800 a year.
Comes in at 750kg. Prior to me owning it the car ran in the MESC series for 3 seasons and came 4th in the TunerGP last year.

The internals of the 1.8T are rated to about 350bhp/350lbft before you'll bend or snap a rod.
Giving its a 150bhp based engine, that is near enough an extra 150% tolerance before failure.
All the components are forged items and its only really the rods that let it down, the crank is capable and has been proven at silly figures 600+ and the pistons from mahle are rated at 500bhp+. The weak link of the 1.8T is the rods at 350bhp.
The guy with the TT with 360bhp/75bhp nos runs uprated rods, badger bill who owns the 527bhp ibiza has had the pistons/rods/valves uprated.
The 1.8T is a very highly tunable engine especially on standard components. I dont see the subaru/mitsi engine having a 2 1/2 x mark up on their internals before failure.
