Jaguar X-Type?
Hi,
Anyone on here own, or has owned a X-Type Jag?
I have heard they suffer from reliability issues, not to mention quality issues, anyone confirm these doubts?
The car looks ok from the outside, the inside is a bit ..........
Thanks

My mate has had one from new for about 9 months, no issues apart from some pikey scumbag keying it.
He loves it as does his missus.
2.5 v6, it's not the sport but the SE I think (chrome trim and comfy ride).

If you are interested there is an ex-police X type for sale on autotrader. Its rare to see them come up so might be worth a look. 6k ish IIRC its dark green with half leather and xenons, climate etc.
The dealer is a fairly well established ex bib carsales outfit and they have been around for some time now.

But misty don't you drive a Astra Diesel ? ROFLMAO I'd rather have a 3Ltr V6 4WD Jag anyday of the week. I'd avoid the front wheel drive vesions though, bit slow.
I'm 34 and I've got a Jaguar S Type albiet the S Type R, I'm the butt of my friends jokes but their opinion changes when they take a ride in it.
A friend has had about 6 X types all from new as he works for Jag and his have been really reliable. I've driven a couple of 3.0 litres and quite enjoyed driving them, especially with the sports trim.
Ok based on a Mondeo but IMO thats not a bad thing, good value for money secondhand too.
They are thirsty though.

I use to have one ,well ive had a couple.
Dont touch an early one. Check the last 5 digets of the chassis number in the windcreen, if it starts with a 'C' then walk away.
Mine was a 2.5 estate Auto - heavy on fuel but a nice comfey ride. The diesel is also a cracking little engine.
Make sure its got leather ......

34 and you drive a jag (oh and it would be a type r eh???) I stand by my first post get a life before you get a jag. Yes I have a diesel, cuss I've done the scoob, evo, type r, t5, etc, etc, thing, and I am old enough to have one even if it is 200/300, and FWD. I know any muppet can drive 4wd quickly because they more or less drive themselves! but a torquey FWD takes a modicum of skill to drive fast

Sorry, I am correct in hearing that to be a good driver you have to drive FWD cars now??? WTF??
It is like saying that you swim across the channel with one arm, and because you do it you are better than anyone else! It still is a handicap, and if you can do it with two arms, or in this case drive a 4WD well, even better!
By the looks of the cars you have owned, the quality seems to have dropped along the way, and there is no shame in saying that you drive less expensive cars or with crappier performance, just don't be such a wet blanket about it!
Of all the excuses and rubbish I have heard.......

I said, it takes a modicum of skill to drive a powerful fwd car quickly! whilst the world and his wife can drive a 4wd quickly. Didn't even mention swimming! Oh and the cars weren't in any particular order just stating that I have done the 4wd thing and got bored with it. No doubt in your later years (if you make it that far) you too will get bored of easy driving. Also if you have had all these great cars, how come you need to ask about one as boring as the x type? surely with your vast knowledge you'd already know the answer?

Right, so between the 2 Golf IVs (1 petrol, 1 diesel 150 PS), and A8 (diesel), 2 Volvo 850 T5s, WRX SW05, there is no chance I would ever know!
Of course just the fact that the Jag looks nice and has a good rep for it's 4WD is also another reason for us mere mortals to be considered daft..........come on!

Now we are getting somewhere!
Still 4WD rocks, as far as for FWD next time you are wrapped around a telephone pole because of all the understeer on a wet, or icy/snowy surface dont complain!

My dad has the 2.5 Sport and loves it, no issues in 2 years other than the ABS wheel sensor playing up.
They look good IMO, and you get a lot for your money - seen them for £6k on Pistonheads.

Speaking as an ex-XJR owner, I always very careful when lighting my pipe above 100, especially if I was wearing my comfy slippers.
In the end, the big power and rwd just got too boring, so now i'm looking for a diesel astra instead. I've heard they're a proper challenge.
You'd have thought Subaru owners (or ex-ones) would think twice before stereotyping, what with all the chav/check cap business.

honestly no because i like scoobs and they dont do a performance model. My dad (who has come on all the test drives with me that the plant offer us) is getting one as his next car though and i wouldnt let my dad by a heap of crap would I. Every car loses money no matter what they are, just cos its got a bmw or mercedes badge doesnt actually mean its the best car in the world after all its only a badge.

The problems no one sees, the ropey technology used etc.
Nice to see that someone who actually builds them is willing to let their dad spend money on one. Much better test than someone who saw one in a car park once and didn't like it.

To many people do this about cars, they think they know it all by reading it in magazines or listening to people down the pub who have problems with there cars but wont take themto the dealers to do the work so just moan about it instead. I can tell you stories about a lot of manufactorors that are scary and shocking but i wont as it happens everywhere but people will just think i,m talking about jag/landrover/ford
