do you think he will go to prison, seems a bit harsh

I wonder waht his excuse will be?

applause for the typical sarcastic comment from the police officer : "Any faster and you'd have taken off!"

Shame he wasn't going 3 mph more as Top Gear did a test on the speed camera's and I think the TVR caught it out at 175... lol!

Bloody idiot though to be doing that speed on a public road, I admit, I hit 80 or 90 sometimes but not 170!!

Shame about the taking without consent and then driving it on a busy road where there is always speed enforcement.

As for the 172, good man good effort but there are better places/countries to do it in - that's what a porker is for

Not if John Reid has to anything to do with it. But then again, they'll probably release a convicted serial killer to make room!!!

almost certainly receive a short stretch given it was TWOC also meaning no insurance etc, even in the current climate.

I understand that the courts are not sentencing pedos to jail time to keep the prisions free for real threats to society like this bloke, him and council tax dodgers!

[QUOTE]

Of course he won't, theres no room

But if he does and that paedo didn't then that sums this country up to a tee.

The fine should be fairly large I'd have thought

He'll be sent down for this to teach others a lesson.

I don't see any problem whatsoever in it, he was driving a car that was capable of the speed and if he'd been about 300 or 400 miles east in a more enlightened country then there'd have been nothing said about it.

The only thing wrong in this case is that it wasn't his car.

That lesson being it's fine to be a pedo but don't speed

I really hope this blows right up in their faces if that happens.

Without delving too deeply into the BS that is our criminal justice system this guy hasn't really done much wrong. I did 150mph in my ski-ladden CTR in Germany and it was a total non-event. 172mph in a 911 turbo is nothing. I bet there was a bit of wind noise and some sweaty palms and that's about it. He will go to prison while thugs, rapists and murderers go free. It is the way of things under this government. You all know how to vote if you want it changed.

Sorry, you're wrong there. Official top speed was 146mph and that was achieved on a banked bowl. The CTR is geared to 20mph/1000rpm in 6th gear and I was pulling 7500rpm. Bang on 150mph. It pulls well to 140mph, but you do need a long bit of road to get through the next 10mph. Very fast car the CTR - underrated.

If you look in NSR and Caught Doing 160mph - The mkiv Supra Owners Club it was one of the hire cars the company he used to work for actually hired out.

Hey ho unlucly for him and I do not condone it but I could not honestly say I wouldnt push a car like that to that speed if it was 4am on the M4 etc as the only details I havent heard were what conditions, time and traffic levels were like when he did it.................

If it was an empty motorway, I don't see the problem.

If it was busy thats a different matter, its all down to "appropriateness".

I can vouch for that My CTR sat quite happily at 120 (well just under cos 120 in 6th is vtech zone) all day, addmittedly acceleration wasn't that quick at these speeds but did get it up to 150mph

I know speedos can be out, but thats the same on any car, IIRC they can over-read by up to 10% but not underread.
