Scumball rally - another vehicle acquired
Following from Astraboy's Omega post I'm posting my newly acquired Scumball 3000 car.
I've been keeping an eye out locally for anything decent going about. So, today, a little earlier than I'd initially anticipated I bought and picked up our Scumball 3000 car. It's a late '92 K-reg BMW 520i SE 24v with 150bhp, with an August 2007 MOT and 3 owners from new (I'll be the fourth!). Drives extremely well, no smoke from the engine, pulls nicely and strongly, braking is even and straight, all the alloys are in excellent condition, good Michelin tyres on the front with Winter tyres on the read (both with plenty of tread). Interior, apart from the driver's seat, is immaculate - even the BMW toolkit is complete!
It's in good condition in the body and is even a nice colour!
Not bad for £430.

The rules are:
165bhp minimum
Manual transmission
Six cylinders (if not turbocharged)
RWD (ideally)
We have considered a number of different makes/models but the more I look the more sense a V6 Omega makes.....

Good choice.
Two things I should point out: I'd try get hold of a fan cowling for the radiator fan if your going to drive through hot countries. As its won't work that brilliantly without it (especially in slow traffic).
Wheel wobble at 40-50mph will be front bushes or the wheel nuts are tightened to old specs (i.e too loose). Also have a good shake on the rear wheels as the rear control arms can get sloppy. Nothing that'll kill you unless its very bad (i.e more than a 1mm of play ) but its good practice to check

John, there are a number of people using the Scumball name. We are talking about the official Scumball3000 (affiliated with the Gumball3000) and the rules state that cars must cost £500 or less.

£65 for the ferry. Im planning on cutting fuel costs with a number of well planned drive-offs in the greater Calais area (so its a good job that you have obscured your registered number Miles.....).

That reminds me, will book the ferry in the morning. Ed was giving us all into trouble for not booking the ferry. Oops.

Don't know the mileage, they won't tell us the checkpoints until we register at the party the night before. But as we are coming from Aberdeen, no doubt our overall mileage will be 1K greater than the others. The idea being that for each day we are give a start and a destination, normally campsite, with various "checkpoints" in between. We demonstrate that we have been through the checkpoints by getting a receipt from a shop in that village or town. They do say five countries in four days, so, England, France, Germany, Italy?, Spain?
AFAIK, it's only Astraboy who has done this caper before. (I probably will be stood corrected!).

How much did it cost you last time... all in - as a total trip.
Did you raise anything after that cost for charity?
Did you get any sponsorship from anywhere business wise like car parts copmanies or something?
