Default RS6

Had my RS6 for 6 months now. Enjoying every minute except the frequent petrol stops!

I know there are a few owners on here. Hope you like

Nice one Phil. Did you see mine finally went on Friday? Guess I should change my location text

In to H&S tomorrow for a custom exhaust for the M5 and a short shift kit.

Looks superb! Has it been lowered, or is it just the angle of the picture?

After nearly two years of very memorable ownership, my RS6 was sold last week. Our replacement 335d touring should be arriving anytime now.

Hi Ed.
Just read on RS246.com that you have sold it! Didn't keep that long! Next years replacement sounds very nice.

Lost my job since buying the RS so if I don't get another soon then I will be going the diesel route too Gary!

The car has standard suspension. Just the angle of the shot and a boot full of baby gubbins.

Lovely car!! They are truely awesome machines but they are flawed, a friend of mine has one and there are a couple of things that let them down. Firstly the build quality is Inferior to the rest of the Audi A6 range due to them being built on a different production line. Secondly the brakes are not upto scratch with the rest of the car. The RS6 has a supercar engine with supercar performance but unfortunatly it weighs almost 2000kg and although the brakes could cope with a supercars weight they struggle when worked hard on the RS6. It is easy to overheat the brakes and if you have the drilled disc option beware of cracks between the drilled holes. Also, replacement discs and upgrade options are few and far between and very expensive. I still think they are a wicked car I love going for a ride in my mates and what a real sleeper!!

Phil.

Is the 505bhp standard or have you done something to it? It looks great. Note to self, sell the house & buy a RS6 ...

It has had the Audi approved ABT remap from new.

Brakes seem good to me! Anyway I don't thrash around like I used to. I'm a Dad now

Hi,

I have had my RS6 for a while now. It suits my needs perfectly. As long as you don't expect it to be like a Scoob on the B roads. As I wouldn't expect the Scoob to be anywhere near the RS6 on long, fast motorway and A road journeys.

Plenty of space, poke, the relaxing autobox (which is surprisingly good) and the addictive sound of a V8.

I run Pagid Blue brake pads in the standard 8 pot Brembo calipers and have no problems with brakes anymore.

I am thinking of making an uprated rear anti roll bar and getting rid of the standard Kayaba DRC suspension and replace it with Reiger, Ohlins, Penske or another decent damper manufacturer's product.

In short, great car if you realise what it is good at. And use the Scoob for the B road blasts and trackdays.

Love these cars. I always think of the The Cult - She sells sanctuary from the scene from LayerCake when he's belting up the country lane to the club house.

They sound awesome too but I've never been in one yet.

Do Audi approve tuners?????

Do you have a web link to ABT? Considering getting the new S3, and have been concerned it's not powerful enough. If Audi approve ABT tuning, then the S3 may well get the green light.

I'm not sure where you're coming from with that statement. My RS6 was the best built vehicle I've ever owned or travelled in. It certainly made my 996 feel cheap and nasty.

Absolutely agreed. Makes my M5 also appear cheap and I also can't think of another car I've been in that's better full stop.

STIlover.
I don't know if the ABT is approved for all models of car but was for the RS6.

This is the company site

Home - Abt Sportsline GmbH - Audi- VW- Skoda- Seat - Tuning, Chiptuning

There are A3 links there.

True they are a nice place to be but if you look close and compare the RS6 to others in the A6 range you can tell they are built differently, this is because The final assembly of the RS 6 takes place at quattro GmbH at Neckarsulm, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Audi AG and Audi's specialist-vehicle builder and the 4.2-litre V8 bi-turbo unit is also produced in-house at Audi, though in this case, by British-based Cosworth Technology, now also a subsidiary of Audi. I have a friend who works at my local Audi dealers and he has confirmed this. the basic 996's are relatively cheap on the inside unless you've spent a forture for all the little covers, finishing touches, brushed alloy pieces etc.

I'm aware of the different build process and child companies involved in building the RS...but in what way are you saying that build quality is not as good as a stock A6?

If you compare the fit and finish of some of the interior panels etc you will find they are not quite on par with Audi's usual high standard. I'm aware that the RS6 in a different league performance wise to the rest of the A6 range but for the money they cost I would expect the same build quality as the rest of the A6 range.
I love the RS6 and think it's an amazing car, something that big should'nt be that fast and agile!

P1FEK
your talking **** mate,The RS6 is the best built car ive ever seen.
The only thing that lets them down are the DRC suspension issues.
build quality is exceptional, your mate must have a bad one, I think
you got it the wrong way around, its the rest of the A6 range that fall apart !

Have contemplated buying an RS6 for Mrs. and for the "extra" space but there is a reduced selection from Audi Germany, lot of crap interiors and colours.

Your wagon is sweet, you really had good aim!

Enjoy, they dont make like that anymore!!

Abraço!

Bigman, this is one thing we do agree on. P1 FEK is taking out of his ****. I have just sold my RS6 but also had two other A6's on difference occassions as hire cars while mine was being serviced and I couldn't wait to get out of them. The RS6 was and is the best built car I've ever been in let alone owned.

Just sold my CSL and looking to buy a RS6 - seems to tick all of the boxes for me at the moment.

Can anyone comment on what the DRC issues are?

Ed will fill you in as his car suffered from it but basically pressure is lost in the suspension so you get dodgy handling. You can spot it by weeping shocks.

Audi garages seem to have a lot of trouble fixing it as it is a complicated job setting the pressures again. It is also VERY expensive.

Touch wood it doesn't happen to me now I am out of warranty!

Fantastic cars though, you won't be sorry.

Its not all that bad, worse case scenario if your out of warranty is £2400 for 4 new shocks and a new control valve.

Basically most RS6 have it replaced at some point, mine had the whole lot done on warranty, audi garages should now know that they cannot re pressurise it they merely need to replace the control valve at the same time.

Nothing to be scared of.

So it is not just some muppet that treats his car badly then?

Cool!
