Question Renault Avantime - future classic or folly

What's the general opinion on these as an alternative to a school run 4x4 e.g Discovery td5 that would be twice as old and have twice the mileage? Prices are down to £6495 now for a 2002. Rarity and plastic panels might give it longevity and slow depreciation. Thoughts? Or Discovery?

A luxury french car will depreciate at same rate as a new to used condom.
That's not to say it isn't value for money, just don't expect much back in a few yrs time. (Be careful on servicing as it can be horrific....v6 espace is an engine out job to change the plugs !!!)

You should have seen my quote to put a few things right on a diesel Espace. Cambelt, major service, x4 tyres, new exhaust, turbo back = £3k

We bought a Honda instead. I like the Avantime though

I love these things, whoever came up with the idea was mad I've heard rumours about wobbly shells and dodgy electrics and I've never really looked into them, other than seeing how much they go for on Autotrader. £10k seemed good value to me, so £^400 seems good value

I guess if you take the plunge it'd have to be a bit of a gamble. I wouldn't buy it as my only car.

Future classic? Maybe - not many produced so quite rare. Then again not many French cars are classics, so the best to hope for is low depreciation.

Wonderful range colours as well.
