Renault Avantime - future classic or folly
What's the general opinion on these as an alternative to a school run 4x4 e.g Discovery td5 that would be twice as old and have twice the mileage? Prices are down to £6495 now for a 2002. Rarity and plastic panels might give it longevity and slow depreciation. Thoughts? Or Discovery?

A luxury french car will depreciate at same rate as a new to used condom.
That's not to say it isn't value for money, just don't expect much back in a few yrs time. (Be careful on servicing as it can be horrific....v6 espace is an engine out job to change the plugs !!!) D |

I love these things, whoever came up with the idea was mad :) I've heard rumours about wobbly shells and dodgy electrics and I've never really looked into them, other than seeing how much they go for on Autotrader. £10k seemed good value to me, so £^400 seems good value
I guess if you take the plunge it'd have to be a bit of a gamble. I wouldn't buy it as my only car. Future classic? Maybe - not many produced so quite rare. Then again not many French cars are classics, so the best to hope for is low depreciation. Wonderful range colours as well. |
