407 Vs Mazda 6 Vs Mondeo
Dad is looking at buying a new car and has narrowed it down to a Mondeao (euk) 407 or Mazda 6. I am leaning towards the Mazda but any other comments or thoughts on these?
Looking for a decent size car with 1/2 decent mpg and will be buying 2nd hand - new as possible <£10K
(would have posted this on an earlier thread elsewhere but cant access site from work)
Cheers
Alan
Ps - there are plent reviews comparing the 407 to the Mazda but they all seem to be in German or Frence

TBH - all of the cars you have listed are really good. The 407 has tricky suspension, the Mazda is the least reppy and the Mondeo is probably the best all round car!
Passat is ok, but i imagine it is quite expensive to get a like for like spec.

Cheers guys =- mondeo has just been ordered and will be delivered in about 10 days (once it gets up from Kent and the CD Changer is fitted) (based on experience and comparison of 407 and Mondeo and comments from here and other places that keep bringing up the Mondeo) 2.0 Zetec - I said TDCI but garage talked my dad out of it as not cost efficent for someone drivingf <10K p.a.
Actually, re the CD changer - £120 to fit when we are supply the cd changer itself and cables - I am assuming the head unit in the mondeo will need an adaptor or something to allow it to plug in unlike most single DIN heard units and they aint charging this just to pull up the carpet? (actually only charging 1/2 as part of deal)

Had a 6 and a Mondeo as long term hires, very difficult too choose between the 2.
Both have the same chassis, I would have gone for the 6, Jap and all that relialibility, especially with the subframe bush issues on the Mondeo.
My Passat longvterm build quality was so-so!

The Mazda scored very slightly higher in this years JD Power survery scoring 81.1 against the Mondeo at 80.0.
The Mondeo is cheaper to buy and service though.
The Jap thing isn't a sure thing like it use to be, Honda and Toyota are still up there but Mazda, Nissan and Suzuki are hovering around mid table and Mitsubishi nearly bottom beaten by the likes of Fiat and Alfa.
Cheers
