Default Got me a work horse - 96'N 306 1.9TD !!!

Hey all,

Just bought myself an oil burner for work - 600 miles out of a tank !!! 125 miles out of £5'er !!!

Bought it on the weekend.

1996 N - 130k on clock full Peugeot dealership & specialist since new, diablo red, everything turbo diesel sport besides engine & running gear, had complete engine rebuild (head gasket went) by peugeot couple of months ago, serviced 3 months ago, new exhaust, radiator, water pump, brakes, battery, glow plugs etc

3dr, completely standard besides sony cd player. Exterior, no rust, paint brilliant considering age. Interior immaculate besides a 10mm hole through cloth on right drivers bollster.

MOT til July - Tax end of Dec.

Mechanically spot on, quite nippy for an oil burner !!!

Only faults are - key fod nackered, so unlock with key.
Heater blower broke, but heater still works ok
Electric windows come off runners both sides

The car is a little gem, well pleased with it, just gotta sell the scoob now ;-(

why thank you ;-)

Plus did it all over the phone before i'd even got to see the car.

He was gutted cos he'd spent a few grand on it in the last year or so, cost £1300 for the head gasket work?

Silly

Sometimes the plug at the bottom of the heater can be poor, give it a fiddle and your blowers might work.
Also the blipper needs to be pointed at the interior mirror on some pugs(sorry if you know this but just in case)

And so another person sees sense and ditches the gas guzzler. Sounds like that car could give you a good few years happy motoring for peanuts. There is something wonderfully satisfying about filling your car up with 40 quid's worth and knowing you won't have to put in another drop for 5-600 miles. Another way to look at it is with the money saved over the last two months on petrol alone I can buy myself a new digital SLR camera. Or perhaps I might get myself a new pair of skis instead. Decisions, decisions. See you all at the petrol pumps...or maybe not if you drive a diesel

For the heater, try the resister pack. In the scuttle panel, under a strenghening bar, and a floppy rubber bit. Twist anti- clockwise I think. Costs naff all.

This time last year I too had 2 cars. Scoob for the weekend (and the odd run in the week to work), Xantia for the rest of the work-runs.
Wrote the first Xantia off after 8 months, Bought another, sold the Scoob last Jan and just got rid of the last Xantia as headgasket had gone. Wasn't worth the money/hassle getting it fixed.
So now here I am, car-less, cycling to work for the last 5 weeks (as the current job is only 3 miles away).
Getting very fit but looking forward to purchasing a Zed soon

Nick

put £40 diesel in on sunday night - so far i've done 370 miles & the fuel light has only just come on !!!

And i aint been shy on the accelerator pedal either ;-)

Used to cost me £10 to do 60 miles in the scoob & thats never in the turbo !!!

Plus got my insurance through, half price :-)

Right then, its work horse for 6 months, sell the scoob & save to buy something else as a smile car, S2000 maybe?

My record is 570 miles from 40 litres in my Civic CDTI.

To only get 370 miles you must have been hammering it. Just as an experiment, try driving everywhere for maximum economy, which on the montorway will mean about 60mph. I bet you get at least another 200 miles out of a tank and will arrive at your destination suitably chilled. It may not be exciting, but it saves a shed load of cash spend on other stuff.

I've tried deliberate economy driving in my Passat PD130, and in that car it doesn't give me any benefit!

Cruising at 65 in 6th on motorways gives an average of about 55mpg on the computer, while cruising at 85 - 90 gives an average of ...... about 55mpg

I reckon it's because at 65 on a motorway, you're constantly having to back off and accelerate for wagons etc. At 85 - 90, you just stay in lane 3 and tailgate

Interesting. The exact opposite is true in my Civic. At 85-90 I would get 40-45mpg but at 60 I get 65mpg. I am getting rather obsessed with the instantaneous mpg display.

306 td's are greta little cars arnt they!

i have a 206 Hdi for the weekday car as i do alot of commuting and just use the scoob at weekends and ive gota say the 206 is unreal on fuel, it consistently gets around 550 miles to around £40-£45 of diesel... which is roughly the milage i cover every week.... had to do that in the scoob for a few weeks and jees my fuel bills were bad ... but sooo much more fun

It takes about two years before you STOP getting obsessed with the mpg display

In the Passat, the mpg falls off a cliff above 90 / 3000rpm but keep it below 2800rpm, and it'll give 55mpg all day on a run. Gearing / aerodynamics / engine "sweet spot" I suppose.
