Does anyone run a high mileage VAG 1.9 tdi
As above really.
Any issues with these. are they bulletproof???
Getting quite affordable now especially the Bora 1.9tdi
which can be had for less than 3k.
50mpg + seems quite appealing
cheers

So far so good with my 130tdi sport Pisshat. It's now at 92k, with me having done 14k since April. It gets driven reasonably hard & averages 46mpg with the climate on. Cost me £200 for a service so far. (although the previous owner did nearly £700 on a new pump & injector.)
Can't fault it for the money. (£5.5k)

IMO the VAG 1.9tdi is good for at least 200k as long as its been serviced properly. Many have done lots of motorway miles, so the engines havent been too stressed.
I was in an A4 1.9 tdi taxi with over 300k a year or so ago, and the guy said it was the original engine and hadnt given him any trouble at all, and still returned 50mpg.

when working at a skoda franchise i saw a few octavia 1.9tdis with 300k plus as long as there serviced properley they go on forever the only we noticed was a pattern of injectors at about 200k but this could proberley be avoided by using injector cleaner

How about considering a car with the BMW 2.5 diesel engine in it, range rover, 3 series, 5 series or omega? i have seen plenty of these with 200k plus miles and still going strong, bit more go them the 1.9 vag unit aswell.

Bloke at the desk next to mine has a R-reg Passat 1.9TDi with a 170K on the clock. Apart from worn suspension and the auxiliary belt failing, it's been v. reliable.

I've experience of a number of high mile variants of these, and yes, by and large they're great to big miles.
My Passat 110 has 132k and goes fine apart from a bit of turbo whine (but no smoke). My missus Golf 3 90hp is ace at just over 100k, and my mates 170k Octavia 110 still sounds like new. All do about 45-50mpg over a tank, and my Passat does around 60mpg on the way to work as it's slow (60-80) motorway work.
Passat has got fragile front susp bushes but the arms are only 30 quid a go and the ride is much better for motorways than the Golf/Bora etc...
All great for the money. Well built, nice blue dash etc..
Cheers

110000+ on a '96 A4 TDi. Record efficiency from a tank was 56 mpg, that translated to 745 miles
Only had it 6 months and no issues to report as yet, will need a new cam belt soon which I've heard isn't cheap.
