Question Help - Clio tick over too high

Hi,
93 K Clio 1.4 RN starts fine, and ticks over nicely, but as soon as any throttle used, will not settle back down, but races slightly. I have checked for any mechanical hitches, but seems to be electrical. Looking in a Haynes manual, I think it could be pointing to the Idle control motor, but wondered if anyone else has had experience of this. Car is a single point injection I think - only bought the car Saturday, for a song, but do not want to throw money at it, if it can be a simple fix, and it is my sons first motor - only passed last Monday !
Strangely enough, when tick over racing, you can put it in gear, with the handbrake on, and let out the clutch to slow the engine to the point of stalling, then dip the clutch and the revs stay fine, ie 800 rpm ish. Also, if the ignition is turned off, and the car then restarted (from racing tick over), the engine will again idle fine, until any accelerator is used. Car has been laid up for a short while so wondering whether this will cure itself or not - done about twenty miles so far and not much, if any improvement. Accelerator cable is loose, and not sticking by the way.
Cheers,
Mart.

Thumbs up Update

OK. Now done 39 miles, and is definately improving. Hopefully this will cure itself, but any views would be appreciated.
Mart.

If it is Bosch monopoint, the idle stepper motor will be faulty. The stepper motor has an idle switch at the end of the rod.

You buy French cr@p, you pay the consequences.

I'm with AudiBummer, go buy something else.
