Default A6 Avant Alternative

Dabbling with changing our 'family' car , A6 Avant 2.5 Tdi SE - problem is, I can't find much that does everything that it does, and that we need, but i've had it a couple of years and i've never kept a car more than 18 months.
Need something with as much luggage capacity, fair economy - I get 40mpg average with mainly urban driving, a good turn of pace, and well specced.
Any ideas?

We're selling a 2002 Volvo V70 D5 automatic at the moment if you're interested. Easily as much luggage space and does 40-50mpg all the time. Looking for a little under £10k. Can give more details if you would like!

It's an SE with most of the toys!

If this change is for you then why not keep the Audi and spend a couple of grand on something small and chuckable that will be great fun for you and nice for the Mrs to take on the odd shopping spree. Save a load of cash and treat yourself to the odd track day.

Couple of my thoughts: Forester Sti (guess it might be too thirsty though), Leggy VR4 (would do again if i had LPG), Passat 4 motion, 530d.
