Maserati Ghibli Cup - Brave Man or Fool ?
Afternoon,
I have just bought a silver one
1998 last RHD one built.
Twin Turbo 2 litre V6 very impressive car.
0 -60 - I have seen it as low as 4.68, 170 ish top speed
Legendary reliabilty
I will try to post pics when I pick it up if anybody is interested.
Bad points
Turbo's £3000 each
Electronically adjustable Suspension £1200 a corner
Everything bar an oil change seems to be Engine out.
To change the timing chains 30 hours labour, this one has had them done.
Spares ????
It just sort of grabbed me when we looked at it, if it stays out of the garage it is very a capable car!
Del

Mmm, I've always wanted one of these. Now are you sure it's a "Cup"? They only did 25 RHD Cups.
Bill McGrath is your man for all things Ghibli (and indeed all Biturbo variants). Based in Herts.

You know things are bad when you get a Christmas Card from a garage that look after one of your cars!
Mind you they have seen more of my car than I have in the past 12 months

I drove one of these when the B'ham CCC had one (rip, lol). It was pretty swish and felt quite special. They had a lovely Bi-turbo Spyder too that was really nice until someone wrote it off.
I like the engine, one of those cars where the power rushes up on you but is never overwhelming. A lot more urgent than a scooby turbo (well a standard one) or similar. Got a lot of respect too....most comments were "never seen one of them before" or "never seen a Maserati before" (this was when the 3200GT hadn't been out long and before that Maserati sales were in the 10's per year in the days of the Ghibli). I'd never seen a Maserati until i drove a Bi-turbo a couple of years before the Ghibli! The Three i've known/driven have all needed a lot of fettling a lot of the time but when they were running sweet they were great
How you doing Robin, watch still ticking along ok?

I had viewed a couple before hand, and had spoken to both Bill McGrath and another expert based in North Kent, which is closer to me, both were friendly and helpful.
Yes it is a Cup, I think there were 26 RHD of which there are only 24 left, we looked at a Yellow one which is the only one in the world - the other yellow one was written off. To own the only one in the world has a certain something about it.
Alec
Just shy of £18K.
Everybody seems to suggest you budget £2,000 a year for it.

Great cars when they run OK ,just turned down the offer of a 3200gta ,that has just had £9500 spent on it, and still needs a couple of gremlins sorting out ,didn't quite have the bottle!

nice one - but if, sorry, when something goes wrong...big dough!
just got a 3200GTA a month or so back, loving it but by god, not the most reliable of cars and parts prices can take your breath away :-)

It is quite a special car, that's what saves it every time you think 'What can go wrong next?!'

Was this one for with about 27K on the clock ?
Advertised for about £18,500 ?
It was immaculately clean, the only problem i found when looking at some of the ultra low mileage ones were that they had replaced electronic shocks, they have just seized up through lack of use, I would suggest to him that every time he goes out just work through the settings once or twice.
Mine has had some wear and tear items replaced but nothing yet has broken or failed - just the wear and tear items are not cheap !!
