Mine broke down twice - each time a known fault with the fan units. Both bills fully covered by the warranty. Other than that not even a creak. Build quality was better than the BMW I replaced it with.
I liked the size and the car generally so much that I see a nice R32 coming along in a year or so ......

Dunno, just looking through the options that may fit my needs. I was actually looking at the Mk1 R32 but was surprised to see these so cheap so I was wondering what the catch was?

AMD do a chip for them that puts them on a par with a MKIV R32. Suspension and brake mods needed though so not as cheap as they might look to start with.
Plus despite having independant rear suspension (unlike other MKIV's) they still suffer from having a crap chassis even with mods.
Heavy on fuel, you'd be better off with an RS2.
If you want a real interesting stealth wagon the W8 Passats are now available from 7-8K.

Yeah on second thoughts I wouldn't fit snowboards in a golf anyway!
Funny enough my last car was a Passat, albeit a PD130 sport, but I was shocked at just how capable it was!
Will google the W8 now.

Just sold Golf V6 4Motion, was a good car but a little uninvolving, was thinking about buying an R32 but every one I went to see as a private sale was owned by a "ned/hoodie type" I know this is wrong but it put me off. Now have Porsche (probably previous owner was an insider trader/money launderer but didnt have a Burberry shell suit on). probably says more about me than them!!

Just bought a Bora 4motion with r32 engine chipped to 267 bhp.
Brembo 4 pot brakes.
Looks like a stardard 4motion.
Great to drive and very quick
Paid the same as standard 4motion Golf.
Think its the only conversion in the UK.

owned one from new. Lots of character but not a particularly fast or involving car and cained the petrol. Would go for an R32 rather than chipping a V6 personally.
