Check this out, Brand new Golf MK1
I thought these were ace when I saw these about 3 yrs ago, I checked the other day if they were still doing them, shame there is no GTI version.

THAT IS SOOOO BRILLIANT!!
The Mk1 chasis was fantastic to drive, stick a modern interior and engine in it and that's my dream car - I agree it's a shame with no GTi, but still that's superb!
I've done a quick price conversion, 7k for the 1.6 version!

You can still get brand new Campervans, see Cheggers on GMTV in an 06 Plate (sad spotter ......I know).
The CiTi is based on the GTI but is much more refined, technology etc. Much about them on the VW owners forums too. Did read an article in a VW Driver mag a few years ago about these. Good import market I think.
