Any comments on the real world MPG of the last shape 530d SE (96-02?), around town and motorway at about 80. Doing 500+ a week so thinking of a swap from WRX.

You should see 35mpg average on an auto and 39mpg on a manual. My old 330d's with that motor averaged 41mpg (manual). If you're doing a lot of stop-start town work, expect a little less. 500 miles a week isn't a full tank, as you should get close to 600 with the E39's.

Hi mate, i had one a few years ago - it was an auto and I averaged 33mpg, on a run it returned 37 if i was light on the gas pedeal.

Hi mate i have a 530i petrol and recently on a 130 mile run i saw 34mpg. Was doing 70 all the way near enough (mother in law in the back!!!)
