Smile One for the Mini experts - Ignition

The points on my stepson's 84 mini keep going out of adjustment, or just frying, So to save me keep p!ssing around, I want to fit an electronic substitute.

My question for the experts is: Is there somethnig better than the old Lumenition 'magic eye' set-up these days, or is that still the one to go for?

Can't see why it's going out of adjustment mate, there are only three things that can affect the ignition. distributor bolt, and two screws holding the points in!!! You could see if you can get a dissy from a later metro, they were electronic ignition.

The lumenition is still quite popular, the biggest issue with what you have now is probably a worn Dizzy shaft, so, you adjust it, and then as soon as it's done a few rotations, it seems to be out again........ it depends if it's an A series, or an A+ as to wether you can fit a metro dizzy....

It's an A+, so I imagine a Metro dizzy would fit. Am I right in assuming that I would have to install some other electrical gubbins too?

lumenition - both optronic and magnatronic are still very popular.

Aldon Ignitor also gets good reports.

I had terrible trouble with the points on my A-Series (1275 Midget). Wouldnt hold the points gap. Dizzy shaft wobbling all over he shop. Recon dizzy was worse than the one it replaced. Eventually replaced it with a Aldon Yellow dizzy and Lumention Optronic kit from ebay. was like a new car !

my brother has the lumenition kit on his, once of the best mods he's done, been 100% reliable since fitting, about 5 yrs ago.
it used to eat points, condensors all the time for no apparent reason.

Seem to remember from a couple of tuned ones that I'd played with (fathers / brothers) that an Aldon dizzy and lumentition system worked very nicely, was at the time the recommended set-up for my Dad's new lightened, balanced and generally rather well sorted 1380 that went into his fibre-glass shelled lump. Ok, that was a few years back, but the A series is a rather old design engine!

Brings back fond memories of that car - over 110 (bhp and torque), less weight than a normal mini, seriously free revving, power band 2500-7500rpm, upgraded supsension and decent front disk brakes, it was rather an entertaining drive that could play with some fairly serious machinery on the right roads.
