My father in law has the estate 2.5 tdi, to be honest it didnt feel much different to the 130 Passat I drove, sounded a bit better and the Passat was a manual and the Audi an auto. The Audi was really nice inside.

The 2.5 litr unit is old technology, not that powerful and uses loads of fuel.

You would have been better off with a petrol, much nicer units even the 2.8.

Diesel + Cabriolet = NASTY

Bad combination IMHO. You need a sweet sounding engine in anything drop top otherwise it sullies the overall experience, again IMHO.

p.s. I've got a chipped A4 Sport Avant 1.9 TDi and they are great cars.

Dont mean to be rude mate, but that is a SERIOUSLY minging car.....its gold...it looks like it should be owned by a rich old woman with bad eyesight...its boring, plain, dull...everything a convertible shoudnt be...

Also the 2.5 engines in these are old school units, and noweher near a macth for the BMW 330cd etc.....

A Big thumbs down Im afraid....its just awful!

My mates got one of these as a company car, but his is silver. He likes it, not as much as his 2.0Tdi (180) A3 that he had previously, but I'd settle for either. If its what you like, enjoy, lets hope the weather stays good for you!!!

With respect the engine is still a crap unit though. Did you know that before you bought it?
If so what appeals about a diesel engine that isn't flexible and offers less useable power and much worse fuel economy than the 1.9 unit made by the same company?

Couldn't agree more - a minging cabriolet with an outdated/unrefined diesel lump. The 3litre BM diesel is a far better unit. All IMHO FWIW etc etc.

I think this would of gone down well better if it was'nt gold, but at the end of the day who gives a toss, you have purchased a car that you wanted and like which is the most important thing about owning a car in the first place. Put the roof down and enjoy the summer.

p.s. dude why gold?

I had an A4 Avant with the 180bhp 2.5 unit and it wasn't a patch on the 130bhp 1.9 unit found in the Passat it was replacing. Worse fuel economy and felt no quicker than the VW.

As long as the guy in question is happy with the car there's no problem pointing out it's technical failings is there? Might save someone else reading here from making a mistake.

Comments about the cars colour and words like 'minging' probably aren't helpful though- even if they are true.

Its funny, I got a better reaction when I said I had bought a Rover BRM, maybe they were humouring me cos I am speshul.

It is a nice car despite the colour, the engine, Princess Diana connotations etc

You will when it comes time to resell it. As long as you like it though that's the main thing.

The six cylinder units are much smoother and sound nicer than the four pots FWIW- and I own a VAG four pot.
