106- quicksilver to gti?
just wondering if anyone knew how long it would take to drop a 106 gti engine into a quicksilver and if its even possible?(for someone who does not realy have much of a clue )
what about the interior parts i.e seats, door cards and even the whole front dash...are they js a straight swap or will it need sum modifications?
thanks, alcazars son...gary

Having had both I'd say it was very possible! They are nearly identical but obviously the brakes etc could need uprating cos the gti is quite a mover!
Interior wise, straight swap I would have thought!
Personally, I wouldn't bother wasting your time or money!
You may as well go straight for the GTI or not bother because by the time you declare the new engine etc to your insurance you wont be saving much money. Up to you though pal

It can be done - a guy that used to live up the road from me did it. In fact, he later bought a scooby, joined scoobynet and moved down south so you might get lucky and he'll see this thread. He has loads of experience as he did a lot of modifications as well for extra power, etc.

Why do people do this ?????? Go and buy as GTI. The numerous pages of cr@p in Max power etc when people have bought a 1.4 206, 106 Quicksilver, Clio 1.2 etc, then buy a larger engine GTI, 172 etc and fit that. Just buy the ******* right car in the first place.

Gary. If you want to save money, have no hassle, comparative reliability and a smidgen of resale value, go buy a GTI....

Even with an engine swap, you can insure the base car cheaper than the GTi.
Besides, its a nice challenege as well, and great for young lads to learn about mechanics.

Having had both ( years ago, hence the user name!) IIRC the GTi has rear discs and the Quiky has drums so the axle will need changing and I also think the GTi had a wider track but I may be wrong.
I'm actually going to get myself another cheap GTi for a track car 'cos I still miss mine!

I bought a STI cos I wanted one. I could have bought a WRX, then bought the rear spoiler, front bumper. I could then have bought a STI engine and fitted that. But what's the point.
I do believe in each to there own. I just think if you want a GTI, buy a GTI.

Probably because you can drop a gti engine into a quicksilver, not tell insurance and go for plausable deniability when you stuff it
That's why my AX had a GT engine when I was 17, never stuffed it though
