Default What Car for 7K

I need help in deciding what car to go for next, Ive around £7000 to spend but cant make up my mind. Ive been down most avenues in terms of previously owned cars including..

Fiesta Rs Turbo, Fiesta Rs 1800, Clio Williams 2, Pulsar Gti-R, 2 Golf Vr6's and an Import Scooby Wrx so as you can see ive been from hot hatch to the jap scene. Ive sort of narrowed it down to an Integra DC2 type R or a Golf Gti 1.8T, Two very different cars i know but ive always loved the Type R and that 8500rpm redline really appeals. As for the Golf there a lot of car for the cash and for under £500 you can get 220BHP easy. Has anyone experienced either of these cars? Or can anyone suggest something else?

Just spent a little over that on a westfield

awesome power to weight ratio, but NOT a daily driver.

i had a 99 1.8 turbo golf bought it after having loads of problems with a pulsar gtir i had all intentions of keeping away from the jap cars had the golf 6 months sold it and got a scooby .... the golfs are solid cars and thats what i still miss about it the ride was comfortable ,the recaro trim was great, the vw stereo and cd changer were perfect with no need to change .... the only problem i had was air flow meters i had two of them in 6 months and a clutch but that was easy enough to do ... i only had a k&n filter on mine which made it sound really nice ..... a 220bhp one would be good imo ....

Mitsubishi Legnum VR4 same drivetrain as an Evo. Octy VRS is also a good idea.

Another vote for the vRS

Fast, smart but understated, well built and you can chip it easily and cheaply to see good gains.

Depends what you really want out of the car, think about a list of priorities in order, and mark each car against them. But you've had a few decent drivers cars, which is obviously what your after, on that note the Teg R is a definate choice, as they don't come much better than that for the money, and the golf wouldn't come close for feel and feedback. I was interested in changing to a ITR DC2 last year, but decided to stick with my weekend modded Pulsar (which has been fine for 6 years now).

220bhp for £500 on the Golf?.. if thats true then its very good. I was always told the ITR on the other hand are diffcult cars to get much bhp out of.

None of them, do you want speed?? If so you will be very dissapointed with both of them cars after owning a import WRX I have a type r as well and have driven a integra and its not the kick a turbo gives you far from it!!

Get another impreza (or a evo) x x

If you can afford to maintain it properly get an E36 M3.

Ive toyed with the idea of another scoob but fuel consuption ( 70 mile round trip to work = 350 mile a week & £60 in optimax ) puts me off, im really leaning towards the Golf as the prices they go for now are supidly low considering they are still fairly modern car.The fact their a turbo is another plus as i know the 220bhp figure i mentioned is possible as my dad owned one a few years back when they 1st came out & he took it to jabbasport who mapped it to 226bhp with no additional mods i saw the R/R printout & couldn't belive it £450 all in.The Vrs is very appealing too as it shares the same engine as the golf so the same tuning potential, its just thats its a skoda...

I know what you're saying, but if I was in your position, it'd be my choice.
The Skoda badge isn't the joke it once was.

You might also want to look at a Mk4 Astra Gsi as an alternative, but maybe just out of your budget. Quick out of the box though

I think it boils down to wether you want a drivers car, or something which can be tuned to be nippy, but not a true drivers car...

Personally, I'd go with the Golf (over the ITR) - I had a GT TDI130 which was ace...until a workmate reversed the works van into it

If you are looking at mid size cars, there's always the 306 GTI6...never been in one, though I imagine its somewere in between your two choices.
