somebody told me that the current wrc cars are just as fast as these oldskool machines, its just that they do it in a lot more stable kind of way so they dont look quite as scarey

is this true?

yes, the power delivery of the Group B cars was pretty fierce, plus the 4wd systems were comparatively crude, so whilst the modern cars only have 2/3rds the ultimate power, the delivery characteristics are much more controllable, along with tyre technology, so that they are faster.

Don't forget the Delta S4 claimed the life of the Sebastian Loeb of his day (Henri Toivenen) and his co-driver Sergio Cresto.

I'm more of a fan of the Metro 6r4, but that's an awesome machine all the same

i'm surprised - people keep coming out and admitting they're 6r4 fans, when in fact it was carp. Completely outclassed by the 205 and Delta S4. You don't get people saying they're Citroen BX fans.

RS200 fans I can understand, because its a great looking car in its own right - even though when you look at the stats you'll see that was carp as well.

<there that should stir up some debate>

U cant call the rs200 crap, it just wasnt on the scene long enough to get developed properly before they got banned, i have a friend who used to build the focus rally cars at m-sport and he says if you take the restrictor out of the modern rally cars u can see around 600bhp just like that

I can and I have. Whilst the RS200 was late to the party, don't forget that both Peugeot and Lancia would have developments up their sleeves including 600bhp + engines. Ford would still have been playing catchup.

Its a great looking car though and went on to do well in Rallycross, but great rally car? No.

I've no doubt the modern cars can run 600bhp + - after all they were able to do that 20 years ago, but the restrictor is required to conform with the rules imposed after Group B was cancelled and the modern era of rallying began.
